Where To Start With End of Code on Spotify
On To You by End of Code takes you on a musical journey guided by Nicolas Saad’s mesmerizing piano and Shawn Pereira’s intriguing vocals which intertwine to create this infectious groove. The song expresses the reality of those who attempt to fake something until the truth is revealed. The idea of having to live with yourself in a lie is a very hard pill to swallow. The shortcut may bear some low hanging fruit, but in the end, your basket will never get full because everyone will be, On To You.
On To You travels through the weight of your mentality when you know you did not win, you did not create it, or you did not play fair and someone else suffers for your actions. You may temporarily feel like a king or queen, but soon you will be the pawn. You will not get the gold, but rather slip into the fold. Your kingdom will be full of nothing and your power will be removed at every level. If these thoughts have ever crossed your mind, cross it out. This song’s dark directive will drag you into the light…this is On To You!
No, the Hoof didn’t write this prose, but he did catch up with Shawn and Nico from End of Code for a chat.
Tell us about yourself, when and how did you get into music, be it producing or as a DJ.
Shawn – Hey this is Shawn Pereira of End of Code. I am the singer and lyric writer for our tracks, funny enough I was just speaking to my friend in Ibiza about how it all started with music. when I was young and I used to sing along to songs like crocodile rock and dance to the disco tracks my mom played. My neighborhood friends would say okay let’s turn down the radio and listen to Shawn because we can’t hear the singer anyway over Shawn, ha ha ha. Then years later modeling in Milan and around Europe we used to go to the clubs as they would hire us for their big promotional nights, on the rides in the car I would sing and they all encouraged me to keep going. Then in Jamaica, while modeling and hanging with friends, the first night there I jumped on stage with people from some big reggae bands including the Whalers, I started signing with them and everyone went wild. Then years later again my wife Candice wanted to learn guitar and I ended up learning to play and write and she became a trial lawyer.
And so it goes to today where I met Nico about 3 years ago in St Barth’s while performing together for a big new year’s private event and here we are today creating like never before and loving it all. We are on our second, follow up album, to “the beginning” called “ The Rise” and just about done. Actually did the vocals and we are mixing right now as we speak to be honest. So I came from the modeling fashion world after being a lifeguard in the Newport Beach California area and was my own agent for most of my career which is now been going since 1991. I have done global and national campaigns for everyone from Tag Heuer , Ralph Lauren, Diet Coke, Crystal lite , TYR sport and more. I live in Malibu with my wife Candice and son Griffin and our dog Lacy .
Nico – I starting djing when I was 11 on FM Radio. Then Clubs in London & Paris in the 90s with Albert de Paname, Café de Paris (London Wednesday Night) and Central (Paris).
What’s the inspiration behind ‘On To You’.
Nico – Always the Chords, I’m a pianist so i like to start with the tone then usually I place a kick.
Shawn – The inspiration behind this track comes from the deep and very obvious act of faking it, very common in Hollywood and entertainment, and the situation of finding out that THEY know and people are on to you. They see right through you and know you are a fraud and not what you appear and preach to be. Selling your soul and never achieving what you wished to be and having to live with that.
The EP/album is a deep introspective dive into the thoughts and actions of this crazy year and actually any time that is full of turbulence. Creating a deep reflection of self and situation.
Tell us about a classic track that never leaves your record box.
Nico – As a DJ classic tracks like Joe Smooth Promised land always has a place in the cut but as a listener, I’m into Jazz and Soul Jam pretty much like Benson or Coltrane.
Shawn – Tracks that never leave my record box include almost anything from George Micheal (I am creating a live acoustic in the round cover of freedom now ), Sade, and tons of downtempo chillout house including Kruder and Dorfmeister, Nightmares on Wax, Guts, Mylo and all the classic 70’s rock from soft to southern, and for sure the entire 80’s collections, tons of 90’s dance and rock as well. I love acoustic music and to be honest one of my favorite albums ever is Harry Belafonte ( live at Carnegie Hall) mama look at boo boo and finally, my neighbors call me BTJ Brazilian Tom Jones ha ha ha, I am Portuguese/American/English. “It’s not unusual “ is my favorite Tom Jones song and I sing it all the time. I’ve been called baby Cat after Cat Steven’s as well and love his collection of music. Richie havens all along the watchtower too. Basically, I LOVE MUSIC !!
Can you recommend any new music, something that you will be playing out when the world returns to some normality.
Nico – Oh, I like Blondish and Rowee “Garden of 3den”.
Shawn – New music I have heard that the world hasn’t yet would include Chris Pierce, a super soulful energy that I will be collabing with soon. Also people like Alex Mackey an acoustic driven crooner who I wrote my new love song funny love with, also Spencer Emmanuelle ( known as Freddie now) who I have written with as well, super soulful voice as well and her father is mark Goodman( MTV’s first VJ and currently has a show on Sirius radio )
How have you kept busy during the last year has the pandemic stifled your creativity or the free time allowed you to experiment more.
Shawn – I have kept incredibly inspired busy during the lockdown with writing music like a mad man and enjoying my family and the special safe time we have been able to share. We workout, sing, play, hike, swim and enjoy our home, beach and hills . We are very lucky.
Nico – For sure we did a complete album with Shawn…
What’s the future hold for yourself, hope and dreams and all that.
Shawn – The Future looks amazing in my eyes, full of inspiration, music, live shows, writing collabs, successes in as many good ways as possible and most importantly family, humanity, purpose, Love and sharing Love and energy in concert with the world and all good people !!
Waking up proud and ready to be a better version of myself is my future everyday goal !!
Nico – Touring with End of Code now, please.!
