Inspired by the Zimbabwe / Philippines / Scotland mix of Groovy Music of The World Part 1 – this time we’re adding England and Brazil:

If I’m kicking this off, I’m going with the LaFontaines – a balls to the wall – guitars in your face opening that quickly settles into the bass line that sets the tone for this trio. Straight into a track from The Snuts 2024 release Millennials. Deep Diving is a little straighter than Under the Storm but I dig the way the chorus swings harder – classic get off your feet and dance track. Finishing with a stone cold classic from Simple Minds. While not their biggest hit by a mile, I’ve always dug the underlying groove on All The Things – the guitars swapping rhythm and lead but keeping everything moving forward and then that big ass chorus – all built for swirling and twirling on the dance floor.
The Hoof writes:
As Andrew says the groove is a hard thing to pin down, what is it? where is it? It can be found anywhere and in everything, it might be in the bassline, a guitar lick, drum pattern or in the vocal style. Whatever it is, it’s definitely in these three tunes, representing England’s groove on this musical world tour, The Au Pairs from Birmingham, Nick Lowe from Surrey and Eric Burdon from Newcastle.
Abdallah writes:
I went to the northeast of Brazil, took 3 different ensambles/singers that mix new stuff with the traditional grooves. I find the result fantastic and honestly, I can hold myself still.
Andrew writes:
I’m staying in the more indie rock vibe of groove – after the wonderfully insanity of Abdallah’s three tracks I’m thinking the extended silence works pretty well ;-p. Teenage Fanclub are one those bands that are in institution in Scotland but never really made it out of country – I love the groove on Get Funky – then straight into a more modern proponent of Groove – swim school – love how this really starts to grow and groove after that 1st minute – digging her angsty vocals – and overall dark feel of the track – which set up a perfect transition into moody angsty Uber -hip – Cocteau Twins. The groove is down low
The Hoof writes:
Continuing the tour of England and off down to Manchester with the ‘A Certain Ratio’ formed in the late 70’s and one of the first rock bands to mix the sounds of funk, punk and disco into thier sound and still releasing music today.
Then just a few hours down the road to the West Midlands, the area where ‘The Charlatans’ journey started, but will always be associated with the ‘Madchester’ scene. I’ll be seeing them live in a field just behind my back garden at a local festival in August, alongside ‘Snow Patrol’ can’t wait for that.
Now back down the M1 south to Islington, North London, fans of the ‘Stereophonics’ will know this one, but may not know ‘Handbags and Gladrags’ was originally wrote by Mike d’Abo the lead singer of Manfred Mann but first released by Chris Farlowe in 1967 and later even Rod Stewart had a bash it it.
Abdallah writes:
Life is crazy here. I’m playing at least twice every weekend!!
Andrew writes:
I’m actively looking to expand my ears and now having got a place in Scotland have been listening to some new Scottish bands. We’ve been grooving hard over the previous tracks but I’m spinning it down – keeping the swing but bringing it close – like a slow dance in a Dunfermline dance hall. These are young Scottish artists, yet to break but bringing the groove – hat tip to @tallah for the article in The Skinny
The Hoof writes:
Like Andrew, I’m going to share some new music. It’s the life blood of the music industry, every new artist is influenced by what went before and then they themselves influence the next generation, regenerating the cycle by pumping beats and rhythms around the globe. Representing the Uk’s influence, three low tempo dance tracks with very different vibes, the Bristolian ‘Katy Pearson’, ‘Thandii’ from Kent ? (maybe they have a studio in Margate) and Manchester duo Kong and TMNMS as ‘Cooper T’.
Abdallah writes:
I know I’m missing a few words, but life is just hectic now… I will get back to that soon!

Abdallah Harati
Bringing Brazilian Music to The World. What is Brazilian Guitar, or “Violão Brasileiro” (in Portuguese)? What about Choro or Seresta? What about Samba? Whether it's São Paulo or Mexico, Dallas or Dubai, Hanoi or Nairobi, Munich or Helsinki, Abdallah Harati uses his guitar to create an insight to the soul of Brazil.
Musician, producer and business strategist, Abdallah Harati is originally from São Paulo, Brazil, grew up in São José dos Campos and since 2015 has been established in Munich, Germany. Prior to that, Abdallah has lived in Guatemala City, Mexico City , San Juan, Dallas, Stockholm, Dubai, Hanoi and Nairobi.
Since the pandemic started, early 2020, Abdallah has released several singles and 1 EP independently in the most popular digital music platforms. His songs were featured in famous blogs like All About Jazz (https://www.allaboutjazz.com), added to the "Relaxing Spanish Guitar" and "Violão Brasileiro" Spotify Editorial Playlist. Abdallah is reaching approximately 2500 streams per day. Additionally, Abdallah is also producing other independent musicians and artists, under the Harati Media label. Several collaboration videos, with remote musicians in different parts of the world, were created by him and generated lots of traction in the virtual environment.
In his childhood, Abdallah grew up in a musical environment not only with his mother but also with his grandparents playing traditional Brazilian music. Uncles and cousins, some amateurs, other professional musicians, music quality was always a must.
He started learning music with flute, piano and finally the classical guitar. However, the home influence of Choro, Seresta and Samba was very strong. Graduated as Electronic Engineer, at the College in Bauru (countryside of São Paulo, Brazil), he had several programs to his credit at the Radio UNESP and performed several concerts. He had the pleasure to appear as the opening acts for famous artists such as Oswaldo Montenegro and Tom Zé. Awarded as best guitar solo performer at the USP Music Festival in 1994 and 1995, he was already part of the Choro Club in São José dos Campos. He was part one of the most important Choro initiatives (Escola Portátil de Música), led by Luciana Rabello, Maurício Carrilho, Pedro Amorim, Álvaro Carrilho and Celsinho Silva. He has travelled all over the world and spent time at Berklee College of Music in Boston and Granada, Spain, at the Carmen de Las Cuevas.
