About this Playlist
“I could shake a hoof to that” said my friend John and the Hoof was born, sharing hoof shaking music from present day to the beginnings of House.
The Hoof caught up with Natasha Kitty Katt on the release of her new single ‘Galactic Love’. It’s a simple story of alien meets glamorous space traveller, and the result is a cosmic romance. Natasha says, “My love for the Star Trek Quote (the Vulcan belief), ‘Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations’ adds another element to this track. It doesn’t matter who or what you are, real love crosses space and time”
The track also features the vocals of His Bitter Truth, aka Raff, who’s shared stages with Kylie Minogue as well as Louie Vega at The Royal Festival Hall. As an artist, session vocalist and writer, Raff has worked with the likes of Sandy Rivera, Todd Terry, MNEK, Low Steppa, Annie Mac, Simma Black, and even The Muppets and Grand Theft Auto!
“So, let’s start at the beginning – when did you first discover your love for music? And what was the moment that made you realize you wanted to pursue it as a career?”
I was raised in a musical household. Ever since I can remember there has been music playing in my ears. My Dad has been a DJ for many years and watching him at his craft inspired me to pick up the decks at age 21. It’s safe to say, from then I have been hooked. I started as vinyl only and then moved to digital. Now I like to do a hybrid of both.
“Your latest release ‘Galactic Love’ has such a unique theme. Can you share with us the inspiration behind it and how you developed the sonic identity of the song?”
Why, thank you. Anyone that has heard of me, and those that haven’t (Hi *waves*) know I have aligned my musical productions and tastes with cosmic sounds. Scifi is a huge influence on me and I think it can be recognised in the music I create. Galactic Love pays tribute to the Vulcan belief – Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations – it doesn’t matter who or what you are, real love crosses space and time.
“Every musician has that one classic track that they hold dear to their heart. Can you tell us about yours? What about it inspires you or keeps you coming back?”
Picking one track is criminal! Haha, I jest. But I have a solid few that will always remain in my box. For this article, I’m going to go with Luther Rabb – Make a Little Move. To me, this is the perfect track. From the thumping bass to the funk guitars, it’s a work of art.
The Hoof – Luther Rabb was also the co founder of the band ‘Ballin Jack’ who recorded the song ‘Found a Child’, have a listen here, if you don’t know what record sampled it, you must have been living in a intergalatic worm hole for the last few decades 😀
“We’re always on the hunt for new music here. Is there an up-and-coming artist or band that you’ve recently discovered and think deserves more attention?”
‘Another Taste‘ definitely deserve the spotlight. Their productions and live performances are out of this world. If you haven’t heard them, please do yourself a favour and listen now. They have a unique sound, are technical wizards and make great music. Under Danilo Plessow’s ‘Space Grapes’ label, these guys really hit the spot.
“Looking ahead to the rest of the year, what are your plans? Any exciting releases or shows that you can tease for us?”
I have an exciting year ahead. I’m off to Canada, the US, Lisbon and all over the UK. I love being on the road. My debut album is also coming out this year, ‘Synaptic Juice’ which will drop on F*CLR records.
“Playlists have become such an important part of music discovery in recent years. What do you think the future holds for this format? Are there any playlists out there that you personally listen to?”
Playlists are a great way to discover new music and remind me of my crate digging adventures. I’m always on the hunt for ones that showcase the finest Italo / Disco / House / New Wave music. Finding music that is new to you is great for the soul.
The Hoof – For the streamers out there, seek out new music and new productions; to boldly go where no man has gone before!
“Connecting with fans is crucial for any artist. How do you prefer to interact with your audience? And have you found that social media has changed the way you approach this?”
I go out of my way to talk to people that are supporting my craft. I think the internet is great for connecting with like-minded music heads. However, on the flip of that, it can also be used as a platform for trolls! Overall, I do think, when used in a safe way, it can be a great tool.
“With so many different ways to consume music nowadays, it can be hard to know what format to focus on. How do you feel about streaming versus downloads versus physical copies?”
Pass me the vinyl records. That will always be my favourite medium. You cannot beat a tangible product. However, there is a place for Digital too and I do enjoy both formats. I do have an issue with streaming, though. I think it’s slowly, but surely squeezing the life out of small artists. Yes, streaming services are like anacondas in my eyes.
“What’s the best way for fans to support you right now? If they only had a few minutes, what could they do to help spread the word about your music?”
Please buy my records, add my songs to playlist and stream where possible! Haha, that sounded like such a desperate plea. But, really, if you like what I do, you can support my music on Bandcamp or follow me directly on all social media platforms.
“Do you believe music matters? Why?”
Music is the soundtrack to my existence. I believe that music is essential. We associate pivotal moments throughout our lives with certain songs and that is sacred.
