About this Playlist
This playlist is the end of a years worth of digital digging, upon subscribing to Spotify in 2017, I set up searching the discographies of every Soul, Funk and Disco artist I knew, then progressed to searching artists I wasn’t aware of and adding them, painstakingly going though every album, single and compilation digging out the best tracks.
With a good knowledge of the genres already, but realising I still had so much to learn and 1000’s of tracks to be discovered, I realised I needed a system rather than just randomly searching for stuff, so I started this search where my journey with soul music began, hip hop and its samples, as years ago that’s where I and a lot of young rap fans discovered all these soul and funk classics. Using the ‘WhoSampled’ website I began looking up classic rap and then listening to the sample, then using ‘discogs’ site to search the whole back catologue, then expanded the search with the info found there, years ago you had all the info on the back of your vinyl record, musicians, producers etc, well all this also is on ‘discogs’ also you can search by genre, so many months were spent going though the list, listening to every track by every artist and adding those I only really enjoyed.
I’d done all the hard work but the playlist was all over place and I like order, so ended up creating a list for every letter of the alphabet, which I still add to when I find new music, this list is the finished product at the time, the search stops in the mid 80’s but with close to 5000 tracks it’s just as well.
