This is our second Halloween playlist this year! In case you missed our last one, check out, Songs That Belong In A Horror Movie. We explored the movies and cinematography that make a song feel like it belongs on the big screen, but what about the stars of those movies? What would the villains themselves listen to?
Whether it’s Maleficent casting a spell, Cruella making a dramatic entrance, he who will not be named plotting his next move, or Scar scheming for the throne, every iconic villain has their own vibe. See what made the cut.
Jenna writes:
I’m always up for another Halloween playlist, and this one really piqued my interest. I’m imagining what the Joker listens to in his time off while making evil plans. For this playlist, I’m thinking dark feelings, moody vibes, and layered tracks. My first thought was “Suburban” by Cradle of Filth. That melody feels straight out of a horror movie. It’s unnerving in all the right ways, and I can definitely see a villain loving it.
I also thought Freddie Dredd would be a perfect artist for this playlist. His music is insane in the best way, and he has such a cool, powerful energy that I think any villain would love. For some reason, I can also picture a villain listening to G-Eazy. There’s just something about the confidence you feel when listening to his music that fits the vibe.
I also really like the chaotic sound of “Gnarly,” which I think would make a great addition to this playlist. It’s the kind of hype song you’d play while preparing for a dramatic entrance or introducing your latest evil lair. Every villain needs a soundtrack, after all!
What do you think a villain would listen to? I’d love to hear which songs you’d add to their playlist!

About the Curators
Andrew
The first visual memory I have is that of the white upright piano in Singapore, Hell and the Dark Forces lived at the bottom, Heaven and the Angels at the top, they would play battles through my fingers and I was hooked.
As a psychology graduate I studied how sound affects human performance.
As a musician I compose instrumental music that stimulates your brain but doesn't mess with your language centers, leaving you free to write creatively without distraction.
As a curator I research how music can improve your life and create flow - I can tell you what music to listen to when studying for a test and why listening to sad music can make you feel better.
As a creator / contributor at musicto I believe that music can make the world better.
What I'm doing nowJenna B
Music is at the center of everything I do. Whether I’m creating playlists, discovering new artists, or singing along in the crowd, you can usually find me at a concert (over 100 and counting!) or with headphones on, exploring sounds across every genre.
