Spooky season sounds different to everyone, and that’s what makes this playlist so much fun. As a community, we came together to share the songs we think belong in a horror movie, from moody new wave and gothic post-punk that feel like a creeping fog rolling in, to loud, unsettling alt-rock that soundtracks the moment the lights go out. With artists spanning different genres, generations, and sounds, everyone brought their own take on what a good scare feels like to them.

Andie writes:
I picked these because they’re the songs I always imagine playing right when the music creeps in and something is clearly about to go wrong. “Psycho Killer” is the obvious one, but it’s too fun to leave out. “The Killing Moon,” “Lullaby,” and “Mad World” have that eerie, slow-burn dread I love. “Shout” is the big, dramatic moment when everything finally boils over. None of these are screaming-in-your-face scary, they’re the kind of spooky that gets under your skin and stays there. Honestly, if a horror movie doesn’t have at least one of these, I’m not watching it. And I can’t really recall at the moment, but “The Killing Moon” was used in this one movie which I found really genius for the specific setting…

About the Curators
Andie De Guzman
Andie constantly thinks of music as an escape to a whole other place. It also brings out this different side of her that only music can. Like, you ever have a bad day, but when you listen to this particular song or shuffle this certain playlist, everything seems better? Yeah, that's pretty much how it makes her feel too. And for her, music has to be playing everywhereβ as in everywhere. It's like she has a soundtrack for anything. She can't stop writing or talking about it. It's something she can talk about with you for hours and hours. Music helps her get lost but in the best way possible.
