Ben & Andrew’s first list together
The Come Back – PillowTalk
Mar 28 – Andrew: “Alright! Almost there ;-p. I’m listening to The Come Back as I type — awesome track, like two or three tracks in one — love the groove on it — but it’s the finger clicks on the end that have an association firing in my addled brain ;-p.”
The Walk – Mayer Hawthorn
Apr 1 – Andrew: “I was soooo close to going with Killer Queen — the finger snaps coming out of The Come Back into it sounded great — but I just couldn’t work with the groove shift. So I’m going with another modern take on the classic ’60s vibe. If PillowTalk are asking her to come back, Mayer is telling her to get the hell away ;-ppp.”
And the living is easy! – Guts
Apr 4 – Ben: “Belter tune, never heard before. I’ve added my nxt. Enjoy.”
Apr 4 – Andrew: “I so fucking love doing this ;-pppp. That’s possibly my favorite version of Summertime ever ;-p. For once I knew exactly what was coming next — (doesn’t happen as often as I wish it would)
Radio Retaliation – Thievery Corporation
Apr 4 – Andrew: “Had to be Thievery Corp. You’re up dude — this is already good ;-p”
Rock Mi Nice – L’Entourloop
Apr 4 – Andrew: “The transition out of Radio Retaliation into Rock Mi Nice is one of the smoothest things I’ve heard this week ;-pppp. And while I’m so tempted to keep us in an Island groove — I’m feeling mischievous ;-p. Made a list with an Indie Turkish artist and she had some mad grooves — while the transition isn’t so smooth and the whole genre and vibe is different — there’s that underlying groove that connects the two tracks — at least in my addled mind ;-p”
Goca Dünya – Altin Gün
Mi Confesion – Gotan Project
Apr 8 – Ben: “👌🏻👊🏻. Your up mate, let’s see where we venture nxt… warming up nicely.”
Apr 8 – Andrew: “Loving the groove of Mi Confesion — also love how we’re screwing around with language — so — kicking up the beat a wee bit — (do like the transition though ;-p) — Tulengua are one of my favorite ‘cross border’ bands — half in Mexico half in the US — heh ;-p. You’re up.”
Motor Hombre – tulengua
World Hold On (FISHER Rework) – Bob Sinclar
Apr 15 – Ben: “Love that mate, thought I’d mix it up a bit. 👊🏻”
Une Touche De Funk – Ametronik
Apr 18 – Andrew: “Hee hee ;-p. I love the direction the list just took — it’s like — the first half was just setting the chill but funky vibe — and now — now we’re getting down to a new funky groove. All yours, dude.”
Way It Is – Mr. Belt & Wezol
Apr 23 – Ben: “This playlist could go anywhere mate, I’m loving it. Your up 👊🏻👌🏻”
Blackout – Breathe Carolina
Apr 24 – Andrew: “Way It Is took me right back to dancing in the late ’80s early ’90s — often in an ‘enhanced’ state ;-p. I’m twisting the groove again — should keep most of the dancers on the floor — but maybe not all of them ;-p”
Oxas – GAMPER & DADONI
May 15 – Ben: “Here we go again. The plot thickens 😂👌🏻”
Don’t Leave Me This Way (with Sarah Jane Morris) – The Communards
!!!! ;-p
Slow Hand – The Pointer Sisters
Change the World – Eric Clapton
Jun 9 – Andrew: “Alright! I hadn’t realized that I already knew where I wanted to go ;-p. I just couldn’t resist a Clapton track after Slow Hand heh ;-p. Keeping the groove subtle and laid back — seems like we’re taking a breather or just calming down after that energetic middle! You’re up.
Rock the Casbah (Ranking Roger) – The Clash
Jun 24 – Ben: “Was going to put The Clash on but found this alternative version 😂👌🏻”
I Feel Love (Afrojack Remix) – Donna Summer
Jul 5 – Andrew: “Love that version of Rock The Casbah ;-p. I was almost going to go with Easy Dub All Star’s version of Five Years — it worked really well but — the more I thought about it — the more I was thinking we’re getting towards the end of the list — only two more tracks each — and was I ready to chill out — and decided that I wasn’t ;-p. So took Ranking Roger’s snare and attempted to match it with another classic remix ;-p. You’re up!”
Paris City Jazz – Bellaire
Jul 23 – Ben: “I’m back now, always got to make time for what you love. Enjoy brother. Just a random tune I came across a while back, love the instrumentals 👊🏻👊🏻”
Party People Night & Day – Block & Crown
Jul 25 – Andrew: “Love it — nice transition out of I Feel Love and who doesn’t appreciate a good bong inhale at the front of a track ;-p. Took me a minute to work out the bass line but it has me going to Off the Wall — I did try the Michael track but I prefer the more danceable remix from Block & Crown! Life is nuts — but that’s what I love about this process — you can step away for weeks — sometimes months — I once made a playlist with a person and it took two years ;-p. But yeah — there’s no pressure and it’s easy to slot back in. Glad to hear that you’ve got a bit more bandwidth for music ;-p. Only one more track each and then we’re gonna have to work out how to publish this seriously groovy piece of work ;-p”
Reggae Beat Goes On – Family Choice
Aug 7 – Ben: “Bit of a random one for my last track, but just love the beat and her voice. Needed to bob it in there. Enjoyed making this mate, very random selections but it’s worked for me 👊🏻👍”
Wave Of Mutilation – Pixies
Aug 12 – Andrew: “Hah! I’ve been listening and for some nuts reason decided that we needed to finish with The Pixies – ’cos – well – can’t really go wrong with them ;-p.
This has been a blast Ben – thank you!

About the Curators
Ben Collinge
Hello there. I'm an open book when it comes to music; I'm a massive Hip Hop fan, so that's my go-to. However, it also depends on my mood and what I'm up to; I love lots of different genres because I'm a beats man, always looking for new tunes or something that catches my ear. I walk the dog for miles, so tunes are what keep me going. If you like Slipknot or heavy metal/hard rock, we might not see eye to eye on music. Apart from that, I'm all in. I'm an open book; every day is a school day in music, as there's always something out there you haven't heard. Bring it on!👊🏻❤
Andrew
The first visual memory I have is that of the white upright piano in Singapore, Hell and the Dark Forces lived at the bottom, Heaven and the Angels at the top, they would play battles through my fingers and I was hooked.
As a psychology graduate I studied how sound affects human performance.
As a musician I compose instrumental music that stimulates your brain but doesn't mess with your language centers, leaving you free to write creatively without distraction.
As a curator I research how music can improve your life and create flow - I can tell you what music to listen to when studying for a test and why listening to sad music can make you feel better.
As a creator / contributor at musicto I believe that music can make the world better.
