Andie’s 5 Picks!
My Favorite Part by Mac Miller & Ariana Grande
With the theme of “duets” this was the first track that immediately came to mind! I think one thing that a duet should always have is chemistry and this track absolutely delivers that!! The verses compliment each other so well and the connection that Mac MIller and Ariana Grande had was definitely something else! I can’t stress this enough, but this was one of my favorite live performances of the song It’s just so fun and enjoyable to watch:
Open Arms by SZA & Travis Scott
I remember listening to this for the first time and feeling completely moved by the whole song. At first, I realized how slow the melody was and I was curious on how Travis Scott would add his verse. When his part came, I was crushed (in a super good way) the lyrics were so emotional and heartfelt and it complimented SZA’s meaning to of the song perfectly.
Trophies by Young Money and Drake
This song is no miss whenever I’m looking for a hype track! I’ll have to admit, I do listen to this a few times to start my day. It just adds this extreme layer of energy. The drops in the track are so heavy that if you’d play this on loud speakers or your headphones, you’d feel a jump. This Young Money and Drake collaboration will always be a classic.
Romeo by Jungle & Bas
This was one of the first songs I’ve heard by Jungle and I don’t know much songs by Bas, but when I found out about this feature, I was stoked. This such a it’ll-be-a-good-day kind of track. The arrangements and mix of the track – like those background vocals, the light instruments, echoes, are fixed sooo well. The hip-hop vibe of the whole thing as well is so head bopping – 10/10 for this funky duet.
I’m In Love With You by Poolside and NEIL FRANCIS
A much slower electro duet that calms me down in so many ways! I’m a sucker for tracks with repetitive lyrics, and this is a great example of that. I’d describe this sound as ‘pretty and light’; it’s like the sound that glitter would make (I hope that makes sense to whoever’s reading this!).
Willmore’s 5 Picks!
911 by Wyclef Jean & Mary J Blige
This song is a seamless blending of distinct styles from Wyclef’s raw delivery to the soulful vocals of Mary J Blige that creates a gripping narrative of love from an urban culture feel. The instrumental Is of a somber tone, accompanied by a pulsating beat and subtle bassline. Throughout the song, there are layers of instrumentation including strings, synths, and percussion, adding depth and texture to the sound. This song shoots straight through my heart everytime I hear it.
U move, i move by John Legend & Jhene Aiko
If I am to get married, this will be my first dance song. The song has a perfect and smooth, mid-tempo groove with a prominent piano melody and gentle percussion. John Legend’s rich and velvety vocals blend seamlessly with Jhené Aiko’s ethereal voice, creating a captivating duet. The lyrics speak to the idea of partnership and devotion, with the singers expressing their willingness to follow each other’s lead and support one another through life’s ups and downs. I am already crying as I write about this song❤
Can you feel the love tonight by Beyoncé & Childish Gambino
Most of you will agree that this song is one of the best songs to be sung in a Motion Picture. The emotions they inserted on this 2019 rendition was priceless. I loved how Beyoncé took center stage on this one. The song retains the heartfelt essence of the original while infusing it with her own soulful style. Her vocals are powerful and emotive, conveying a sense of longing and passion as she sings about the deep connection between two lovers. The arrangement features lush orchestration, including sweeping strings and gentle piano chords, adding to the romantic atmosphere of the song.
One Way by 6lack & T-Pain
The balance between 6lack’s smooth and introspective delivery with T-Pain’s burst of energy and charisma into it was well cooked. The production of this song is amazing. The song has a laid-back and atmospheric vibe, with a slow tempo and minimalist production. The instrumental arrangement consists of a moody blend of deep bass, mellow synths, and subtle percussion, creating a dreamy soundscape. It is a masterpiece.
It won’t stop by Sevyn Streeter & Chris Brown
Sevyn Streeter and Chris Brown create a musical synergy that elevates “It Won’t Stop” into a timeless R&B anthem. Their combined talents and undeniable chemistry make the song a standout collaboration in the realm of contemporary R&B music.” Sevyn Streeter’s silky voice effortlessly glides over the verses and chorus, delivering lyrics that express deep affection and desire. Her vocal performance exudes sensuality and vulnerability, drawing listeners into the romantic narrative of the song. Chris Brown’s smooth vocals complement Sevyn’s, creating a captivating duet that showcases their undeniable chemistry. Brown’s signature falsetto and ad-libs blend harmonically with Streeter’s vocals, enhancing the overall dynamic of the song.

About the Curators
Willmore Dube
I breathe music. I think in melody. I see in rhythm. I hear love.
Andie De Guzman
Andie constantly thinks of music as an escape to a whole other place. It also brings out this different side of her that only music can. Like, you ever have a bad day, but when you listen to this particular song or shuffle this certain playlist, everything seems better? Yeah, that's pretty much how it makes her feel too. And for her, music has to be playing everywhere– as in everywhere. It's like she has a soundtrack for anything. She can't stop writing or talking about it. It's something she can talk about with you for hours and hours. Music helps her get lost but in the best way possible.
