Matt Writes:
The first time I heard Thundercat I almost crashed my car. Every so often the universe delivers a creative soul to Earth that is completely original, innovative, and beyond your wildest dreams of what you thought could exist in music. As I sat on the side of the road, I quickly realized that Thundercat is one of those artists. Let’s just give a few Thundercat bullet points:
- Incredible songwriter, arranger, lyricist, vocalist, and virtuoso bassist
- Instantly recognizable sound and undeniable individuality
- Alongside artists like Flying Lotus, Kendrick Lamar, and Kamasi Washington, Louis Cole, and more…created a whole new sound that can easily be considered what “Jazz” is today
- Successfully pulls off the rare combination of very high level music paired with comedic lyrics
- Virtuoso bassist (our generation’s Jaco)
- Fashion icon and Anime enthusiast
- Has worked with Herbie
Jorge Writes:
I remember the first time I heard about Thundercat, it was in a FlyLo interview a while ago and it didn’t really made sense because in my mind he was talking about the cartoon. I know FlyLo is big into video games so I figured he might have been talking about an old Thundercats game or something.
Then, months later, after being fed some more albums and constantly having THUNDERCAT in the border of my eye I realized that some of FlyLo’s iconic bass lines were played by him, and I was mindblown.
His style was so unique to me, I was an instant fan (I was already a fan and it didn’t occurred to me.)
What a crazy bassist!
