MLK – Peewee Longway

When I first heard this track I had to share it with everyone I could. Ive been following  Quincy Lamont Williams, better known by his stage name Peewee Longway for quite a while now. And he has done nothing short of impress me with every project he releases.

Thunder Clatter – Wild Cub

If you need a song to listen to on Mondays to put you in a good mood, this song will do just that. It has an ecstatic vibe that’s contagious. Within seconds you’ll be grinning, and you may have an uncontrollable urge to move to its rapturous beat…

Rock Your Body – Justin Timberlake

In the early 2000’s, (a.k.a the post boy band era) Justin Timberlake was looking to make a name for himself as well as to make the transition from teen heart throb  to adult solo pop star.

Window Seat – Erykah Badu

As we’ve seen with her recent Vulture interview, Erykah Badu is not afraid of a little controversy. Our track this week comes from the Godmother of Soul herself.

“Window Seat” is the lead single from her 2010 album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). It is the perfect slow jam for a Sunday morning, with a twinkling harp and a rhythm that will instantly get you moving. In the song, Badu struggles with her simultaneous desire to get away and relax alone but have someone missing and waiting for her back home.

White Gloves – Khruganbin

Let’s take a step back. Let’s remember what it’s like to experience something new for the first time. It’s mysterious. It’s engaging. You end up in this little bubble that keeps getting bigger and you can’t get enough. This is the feeling I get every time I listen to Khruangbin. They have this sound that is so comforting, it melts away everything that is wrong with the world. It’s almost as though they have created a little universe with their music that only promotes happiness. Seriously try to listen to this song without a smile on your face.

The Game Of Love – Daft Punk

“The Game Of Love” is a great example of everything that makes Daft Punk such a great and iconic duo, the song is catchy and yet sad, the melody is beautiful and so well written that days, weeks or even years after hearing the song it could still pop into your head at a certain time and remind you to listen to it one more time. It’s also very easy to remember, even a bit haunting, like heartbreak songs need to be.

Si Tu Vois Ma Mère (Slow) – Sidney Bechet & Claude Luter

Well, Sidney Bechet is a genius: a master on the saxophone and the clarinet. His music, distinguished by a wide vibrato, evokes a lot of emotion. I came across this song for the first time while watching Midnight in Paris–one of my favourite films.

Beethoven’s Stairway – Christine Brown

Classical music and hard rock, often met. Just think about the Concerto For Group And Orchestra recorded in 1969 by Deep Purple. A masterpiece in the history of music.

Christine Browne, mixes up two of the biggest icons in these genres… and builds up a track that’s more than stick together two covers.

Saturday In The Park – Chicago

The band Chicago, which was originally Chicago Transit Authority, had a unique sound when they hit the scene. They blended a little rock, a little soul and a little jazz, a mixture that made them a sort of rock version of Earth, Wind & Fire. Both groups always had a stage full of musicians and a supersonic horn section…

We Need Another Shovel – Billy Momo

I’ve always had a sweet spot for Tom Waits. When working as a video editor for a local newspaper back in 2012, I did a piece on a theatre company performing Wait’s Black Rider. The director of the show told me “You always have to play a Tom Waits song like a glass of beer that’s toppling over.” That quote stuck to me, isn’t it accurate?

Fire Away – Skrillex

Every Hero needs to take time out to rest and recuperate: how can you make that miraculous comeback if you never went away in the first place?

When I picture the kind of place I’d escape to, it’s very much your typical exotic retreat; an island, rich and lush, full of nature and all that nice stuff (zero tolerance policy on snakes though), somewhere fresh and relaxing to bring those all-important wellbeing levels back up.

These Days feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen – Rudimental
