Don’t Let It Go – Jon Worthy

Emerging from the shadow of the Grand Ole Opry, there’s a new, more eclectic sound coming from Nashville today and with it a youthful new broom sweeping away the centuries of conservative Tennessee values. Opening with a sample of Gil Scott Herons’s The Revolution Will Not Be Televised and with a chorus that reminds the disenfranchised that they are not alone, Jon Worthy’s Don’t Let It Go is a product of a fresh and inclusive new Nashville…

Raise Your Glass – P!nk

Hey Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed another Spunky Week on this rock orbiting around the sun we call home!

This week’s track is Raise Your Glass by P!nk. A classic pop hit from 2010 that sizzles and pops perfectly alongside the variety we have conjured up along the way with this list.

I love this song because it is a fight song and a call to arms for weirdos, freaks, and extravagant people…

Something To Believe In – Citizen Cope

Sway – POM

Swaying — now this is something we jellyfish do extremely well.  Sway in the current.  Sway with the turbulent surf.  The ocean is always moving.  Complex interwoven rhythms compete with one another to influence our direction.  The jellyfish knows how to roll with it.  The jellyfish sways to the dominant rhythm of the moment with great ease and comfort.

Plottin’ – Yung Bleu

From  Mobile, Alabama, rapper Yung Bleu (born Jeremy Biddle, 1994) got into the industry in early 2010 after watching his brother interact with local hip-hop circles.  Though rapping since he was 11, he first entered the public arena with self-released mixtapes like 2013’s Hello World before eventually becoming involved with Young Boss Entertainment, who worked with the young artist on releasing some early tracks.  The rapper eventually developed a working relationship with Boosie Badazz, collaborating with him on several tracks and landing a deal with Boosie’s Columbia Records-affiliated imprint, Badazz Music Syndicate…

Infantile – Toska

For those of you who are starting to get tired of progressive rock music in the 90s, this track is a great refresher for your mind.

As an avid fan in this genre of progressive rock/metal (and also as a bedroom guitarist), I was starting to become disgruntled by the blatant abuses of composition techniques made popular by bands like Dream Theater and Periphery,…

The Bird & The Rifle – Lori McKenna

I’ve been living with this track for weeks now – letting it creep up on me and infect my bones – I knew it would appear on the list – just didn’t know when.

Relationships…

Damn!

drunk – Monte Booker

Every time I listen to this track it takes me somewhere else. For me personally this is the almost complete embodiment of what this playlist is about. Its so far outside the box that the first time I heard it I was slightly unsure of what to make of it. However, I remember feeling very intrigued… so intrigued in fact that I had to listen to it again and again, to the point that my curiosity became an obsession. For days I had this track on repeat, and every time I listened to it I felt like my mind was drifting to another world.

Magic Everywhere – Jonathan Wilson

Part of growing old is understanding how the world works. We go through tons of experiences that shape who we are, which in turn prepares us for things to come. We become less surprised by the objects and events around us and develop a practical sense of the world. But what does that world look like to a younger you, or perhaps a child. Your understanding is small and the most minuscule of things are extremely interesting. There is a sense of mystery in every nook and cranny in the world. There is magic everywhere…

Dirty Dirty – Charlotte Cardin

Televised singing competitions like American Idol are supposed to give artists the rare opportunity to go form zero to superstar in a matter of weeks. They promise to find the diamonds in the rough, and offer them record deals, fame and fortune. And sometimes they do — household names like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood launched their careers from reality shows like this…

Emily – San Fermin

This song is perfect for listening to on a long evening drive. It’s upbeat and funky, but also elegant and contemplative. Most of the songs I have on this playlist are lyrically happy, but the lyrics in this one tend toward the gloomy side…

Soulshine – Gov’t Mule

When you’re feeling blue, it takes time to bring yourself up out of the pits. If you’re looking for a drug-free mood lifter in under 8 minutes, then you’ve got it with this perfectly named tune by Gov’t Mule.  Also lovingly known as “Mule” by fans, this southern rock band is a side project for The Allman Brothers Band guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody. There is everything to love about this song, but what hooked me is this lyric…
