In Case of Trouble – Darren Korb

This week we are continuing our exploration of recent classics from indie games with a track from Supergiant Games’ first outing: BastionIn Case of Trouble was composed by Supergiant’s in house audio and music mastermind Darren Korb who has produced similarly superb soundtracks for the company’s more recent releases Transistor and Pyre. Music and sound are integral to Supergiant’s expertly crafted game worlds. This appreciation for sound is on full display in Bastion, an isometric action rpg that follows a silent but deadly protagonist: ‘the Kid’, as he navigates his way through the myriad of dangers brought on by the apocalyptic calamity that has befallen his beloved native city of Caelondia…

Plumes – PAVANE

We are blessed to have great fans on this playlist, fans who send us beautiful music like this next piece, a great instrumental track which combines electronic and acoustic music, touched by the influence of European classical music.

This Must Be The Place – Sure Sure

Chill guitar, catchy bass line, and kick drum to drive the beat. This song will send your ears for the ride of a lifetime. The chorus is what really does it brings it all together. Just about any song with “oohs” is probably going to be catchy, and this song embodies that exactly.

Elephants On Tape – Traffic Signs

’m convinced that East German city Leipzig is a better, more relaxed East London. I know, that is being very specific. But hear me out.

What you see is what you get – The Dramatics

Formed by Ron Banks and Larry Reed in the early 60’s, The Dramatics released almost 20 albums, even collaborating with Snoop Dog, on the Doggy Dog World track.   This track was awarded gold disc status by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1971.  A simple message, more and more I am aware of what I see and now, what I get.

Waymore’s Blues – Waylon Jennings

We can’t keep rollin without a little Waylon in our lives…..

The undisputed king of the Outlaw Country movement – flat mate of Johnny Cash – connoisseur of all things party related, and last but not least a major influencer for so contemporary artists.

Chan Chan (Live) – Buena Vista Social Club

Although my introduction to Latin American culture is recent, my appreciation for it is deep. At a point last semester, I was studying the region’s history, watching a documentary series on Cuba and following a show set in Colombia. It only seemed justified to also listen to Latin American music and little did I realise that I was introducing myself to wonderful new world, where I was lucky to come across the Buena Vista Social Club.

Call Me Up – HOMESHAKE

When I first discovered this song I was blown away. With me recently getting into the indie scene I had a lot of ground to cover. This song always stood out to me and set a standard of creativity in the genre that I look for in other artists. This jazzy Lo-Fi electronic fusion was an undeniably great mix. Which was why Homeshake chose this as the lead single for his album Fresh Air.

I Am Her – Shea Diamond

I Am Her is a simmering Southern blues rock torch song that shoulders the enormous weight of being a woman in a world that treats women as second class citizens, shamed for their sexuality as the keepers of original sin. But there’s a difference that gives the song a jagged edge, because Shea Diamond is a black trans woman with a chequered past that would have Simon Cowell salivating down the front of his trademark half-unbuttoned shirt.

On My Mind – Jorja Smith

Oh!

Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl) – Looking Glass

Some bands have decades of songs, others have one or two signature songs that not only define them, but an era. Looking Glass’ “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” is one of those tunes. Wistful, earthy and soul searching, “Brandy” is an ode to a world-weary woman’s life. It was their only #1 hit, staying in that position for a week. There other hit, “Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne,” was a Top 40 hit and has a slinky, sexy 70s feel, too.

I Want A New Drug – Huey Lewis & The News

Hey guys! Welcome back –

This week’s track i’d like to dedicate to my mom. She introduced me to Huey Lewis & The News by playing it many times over the cassette player in the family’s 1995 Chevy Lumina. This track not only has me nostalgic, but it also makes me smile and dig deeper into the mounds of great music form the 80’s era of Rock N’ Roll…
