Still kind of discombobulated but almost getting my shit back together – it’s at times like these that I’m grateful to listen to every track submitted by the entire music to community of curators. While most aren’t suitable for the Essay Writing playlist – some are just gems!
Bands like the Districts only come around once in a long time. Powerful guitars, great vocals, strong bass to bring it all together, hard hitting drums. The song, Young Blood, being almost 9 minutes long, surprisingly feels like it should be longer. The song has a great mixture of tempo change, build ups, and crazy guitar solos. Must listen.
This track is one of the wonkiest beats I’ve ever heard. For an instrumental to amaze me it must have two things: unique sound design and BOUNCE. This track excels tremendously in both!
Let’s talk about the Toronto based band Badbadnotgood. You’ve definitely heard them even if you didn’t realize it. They’ve worked with pretty much every big name artist. Kaytranada, Tyler The Creator, Daniel Caesar, Kali Uchis and even the Wu Tang Clan. These four Toronto boys have been busy pretty much since 2012 as they gained popularity being the go to guys when it comes to authentic jazz or R&B…
So many layers to this song. I have been the rifle, and I have been the bird. I know now, that I am both at the same time. If I choose to be content with, looking at the big wide open sky through a window, and no more, knowing I am not happy, I have chosen to be my own rifle…
I was just minding my business, going about my day when this track submission showed up in my inbox and made my week. It had me within the first 15 seconds with its fun beat, groovy bassline, and soulful, funky vocals. It’s one of those songs that will have you dancing in your car and will most likely be stuck in your head the rest of the day. And really, what more do you want from your morning tunes?
Sometimes the night just calls for you to lay down on the floor and watch the stars, the immensely beautiful sky and the majestic view of the small portion of that huge universe around us, sometimes a starry night can be one of the most memorable moments of life.
With his new album “Günaşığı”, I started listening to Ahmet Ali Arslan. The first thing I realized in his songs was the sound of “bendir”, my favorite instrument. As the music proceeded, the clarinet blew my mind. The delicacy of it was out of this planet. With familiar sounds of “İncesaz” and “Erkan Oğur” Ahmet Ali Arslan was now in my radar.
Following on the heels of the Chicago Transit Authority, many bands in the late 60s and early 70s had a dynamic horn section that made their sound supersonic and vibrant. This Toronto, Ontario band formed in 1968 and they’re still rocking the house. They had several songs that made the charts, but “One Fine Morning” was their highest charting, reaching #24 on the US Hot 100…
This track will just make you happy and feel good and it will add a new slang tag to your vocab HMU – Hit Me Up. This band are the ultimate party band and if you don’t dance to these guys you simply don’t a sense of soul and you need to find one to make your life better. The band hails from Southern California and you will get a strong sense of the best days of disco but with a contemporary twist from their music…
Janelle Monáe is back. Last week the singer turned android turned actress teased her upcoming album, Dirty Computer, with two new songs, including our track of the week: “Make Me Feel.” It’s a sugary pop-Rnb blend clearly influenced by her mentor Prince. It’s a fun, sassy and danceable exploration of love and sex…
It’s very hard to explain the eighties to someone who either wasn’t alive then or isn’t old enough to remember it. After all, this was the decade when the computer was named the man of the year by Time Magazine, John Lennon was shot, Pac-Man was released, MTV was launched, Prince Charles married Diana, the Chernobyl nuclear reactor exploded, the Berlin Wall was torn down, the Cold War was slowly coming to an end and most of the music world went crazy with synthesizers and electric drums…
