This track took me back. And I don’t know if it was the fact that it was entitled, “Video Child,” that made me realize this, but I just felt that instant connection with it for sure. The first few reverbs from the guitar gave me the sense that it was a perfect song for sitting and looking back at our lives. Matilda Mård created such a beautiful track for reminiscing and remembering. With this song, we think about what we lost, what we gained, and how we changed. The steady rhythm, low horns, and pretty-toned melody in itself brought the whole track together. It’s a musical experience that makes the listener think of the moments in their life that shaped them to be the person they are right now.
And lyrically speaking, I feel as if her last chorus was an absolutely brilliant way to end the track. “And oh, you’re never gonna get hurt again…Video Child,” When we look back and think about all the things that we’ve done, I’m sure that most of us particularly remember the difficult times and how we’re able to overcome them. We’d even be amazed about how we’re able to get through such a huge obstacle. Whenever I listen to this song, it tells me that things are all going to fall into place, no matter the heartache.
I really do love songs that pour out such emotion in both their overall production and lyrical prowess, because I believe that if the artist is able to balance out both aspects, they can certainly create something so beautiful that’ll be impossible to forget. They can have the power to make their track embedded in someone’s life because it just resonates so much with what they feel each day.
