With the intro from that smooth and subtle violin in the first 18 seconds of the track, I already knew it would take me somewhere. And by somewhere I mean a whole different mindset. If you’d ask me to describe the song in one word, I’d say assurance. You see, the beautiful thing, and why I absolutely love this track so much, is because of the way the band put together this masterpiece of lyrical poetry into a beautiful, comfort-filled melody. Plus the way Wilco sings it with such a mellow voice just brings it all together. And well, if you know me, you’d know that I always enjoy breaking down the lyrics of the song. So, when I did it with this track, I’m not even joking, I got pretty emotional.
This song hit me so powerfully that the lyrics were actually speaking to me. For example, “Don’t cry, you can rely on me honey,” or “I’ll be around, you were right about the sars, each one is a setting sun,”– these are the type of lyrics we all need to hear when we want to take a break from our sometimes overwhelming life; and when our days are unexpectedly filled with a little more downs than ups. This song, I guarantee you, will make you stop, sit down, and just…breathe.
