One of my favorite television series is One Tree Hill and it’s definitely because I identify with one of the characters so much, Peyton Sawyer. She was a young woman growing up in Tree Hill who loved music so much that her storyline always linked back to her love for music. So in Peyton’s words “Sometimes things find you when you need them to find you. I believe that. and for me it's usually songs lyrics (Peyton Sawyer, One Tree Hill)”. I'm a lyric girl just like Peyton, I like pondering over the lyrics, reading about the inspiration behind the song, inferring what the artist wanted to say, what others think and what i think. I spend a lot of my time thinking about a lot of things and how they’re intertwined. I’m driven by lyrics in songs, not only because I resonate with the words, but the way song presents them as a whole. Lyrics have kept me sane have helped me through tough times.
Lyrics are poetry, they are an art and I believe that a song is better if it comes from the heart. Therefore I believe that there needs to be a shift in the industry, but also in the mentality of people. You would expect this generation to be more attentive and more open but they are following in the same footsteps of the past generations and falling into the consumer trap.
