Hi Andrew, here’s one to start us off! I think it’s a fantastic track that has got a lot of different influences in it, so really interested to see where it’ll take us!
Dans Ce Monde Trouble – Amadou & Mariam
Andrew
The more I listened to Dans Ce Monde Trouble all I could think of was Iggy Pop’s classic track but I wasn’t feeling his version out of the transition and I knew there was a funkier version out there – almost went for the 8 minute remix version but – that might be a little much this early in the list.
You’re up! :-p
The Passenger – Siouxsie and the Banshees
Wow such a great choice, love how they blend into each other! I felt like there were a lot of possibilities to add next but in the end I went down the great riff connection.. hope you enjoy!
Wassulu Don – Oumou Sangaré
hah! i see your afro / blues blend and return with turkish rock ;-pppppp. you’re up!
actually – now second guessing myself – ;-p
Much happier – ‘cos you can’t go wrong with a solid Goat opening :-p
Nargile – Gaye Su Akyol
Very very nice Turkish rock! I listened to the whole album and loved it! You’re also absolutely right you can’t beat a goat opening! In return I offer some raga rock, not sure what made me think of it, something about the orchestral vibes of both songs. Hope you enjoy!
Friends – Remaster – Led Zeppelin
Heh! – I’ve had Gallows Pole on a couple of lists this year – Tangerine is one of my all time faves – I’ve got some thinking to do to respond to this one 🙂
couldn’t resist taking the slide feel – updating it a few decades – kinda digging the transition on this one too – you’re up 🙂
Dope – Rocco DeLuca and The Burden
Agreed! I absolutely love Gallows Pole and Tangerine! Apart from The Roy Harper one there’s not a bad track on Led Zep 3
Agreed Excellent transition! And can’t beat good slide
Got a bit of slide in my track too! Hope you enjoy
Moonshiner’s Daughter – Rhiannon Giddens
lol re Roy Harper :-p
this was one of those where the follow track immediately jumped into my ears – Moonshiner’s Daughter is perfect out of the Rocco DeLuca track – and whether it was the name or the the general groove – well – it was all I could think of – super interested to see which direction we go in next 🙂
The Chain – Fleetwood Mac
Oh nice Interesting direction! I’ve put something on that kinda links back to earlier on in the playlist, hope you enjoy!
Nobody’s Fault But Mine – No Blues
Heh! This really is one of my favorite things to do – just seeing how tracks bounce of someone’s ears and memories – and then getting to do the same. The list is really interesting so far – there’s definitely a “twang” aspect to it – whatever that means 😛 – but from cultural blending of the beginning to the more rootsy development culminating in a pop classic and feeding back out through roots to the world – I was hearing sitar vibes all over the No Blues track and while the groove is slightly more chilled – it takes that sub continent feel and moves into it… you’re up 🙂
Dil Beparvah (The Dewarists, Season 5) – Ankur Tewar
Absolutely ! It’s so interesting to see the different directions we’ve been going! I really like Dil Beparvah, it’s such an enchanting song! Not sure why but something about it just made me think of this next track!
Oh to Be in Love – Kate Bush
Sorry – got lost in different lists 😛 Took the Kate vibe and ran with i – well – into one of her “protégés” You’re up!
Crucify – 2015 Remaster – Tori Amos
No worries! Nice track, love the drum sound! I went with what I feel is a similarish vibe, hope you enjoy!
You Don’t Know Me – Leyla McCalla
there’s a definite eclectic vibe to this list 🙂 and yes – I do enjoy indeed the Leyla McCalla track – had me grooving on newness…you’re up
midnight sun – Nilüfer Yanya
Agreed, I really like how varied it is! I’ve gone for some more Turkish Psychedelic vibes!
Haydar Haydar – Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek
Keeping it Turkish – and keeping the vibes 😛 back at you :-p.
Niyə Belə Uzundur Bu Yollar – No Land
Very nice! I’ve continued the waltzish vibes, hope you enjoy!
Mafeesh Amar – Youssra El Hawary
taking that groove and pushing it westward – no idea how Gogol Bordello ended up in my head but – it did. If you’ve never seen the Madonna directed movie Filth and Wisdom – it’s a trip :-p
Start Wearing Purple – Gogol Bordello
Sure I’ll check it out! Love the track! I’ve gone for a more similar track this time, back to you 😊
Happy New Year!
Voodoo Rag – Äl Jawala
Taking that Big band Swing and spinning over to Spain ‘cos they can get that groove over there too!
Coco Zoot Suit – Twanguero
Loved that last one you sent over! I’ve really liked some of Twanguero’s other stuff I’ve heard but this was a new one for me! I’ve gone for a track I think flows with it quite nicely, back to you!
Georgia Slop – Los Lobos
And so here we are at the end. Having gone through at least 15 different countries I couldn’t resist cycling back up to the top of the list. While we’re ending in Turkey rather than Mali, it does feel like a nice end cap to what has been one hell of an eclectic journey!
Aya Bak Yıldıza Bak – Replikas
