It’s always a joy to learn someone else’s culture! And because of musicto, we learn it through, well…music! it’s such an interesting way to learn how another country would describe love, relationships, and life – how they’d sing about it and fuse it with their different genres.

All the tracks I learned from Bernice really showed me how unique and different the music is in Ghana compared to the Philippines. I particularly loved how they titled their songs, the energy, and the lyrics. I also enjoyed the fact that Bernice would tell me what the song was all about after adding it to the playlist and there was this one song that had a really sad meaning, but the tone was just so vibrant, I never would have thought! It’s a thrill learning about the cultures of music!

I really liked the concept of this playlist that Andie came up with and enjoyed introducing Andie to some of the classics from Ghana. I was really impressed by the range of genres which influenced her selection of songs and I also saved a few to my playlist! I tried to incorporate a good range of old school and new school classics to the playlist and listening back to them reminded me why I even fell in love with highlife music as it is so heavily embedded in Ghanaian culture.

Andie De Guzman
Andie constantly thinks of music as an escape to a whole other place. It also brings out this different side of her that only music can. Like, you ever have a bad day, but when you listen to this particular song or shuffle this certain playlist, everything seems better? Yeah, that's pretty much how it makes her feel too. And for her, music has to be playing everywhere– as in everywhere. It's like she has a soundtrack for anything. She can't stop writing or talking about it. It's something she can talk about with you for hours and hours. Music helps her get lost but in the best way possible.
