What does it take for you to understand a situation?, I think we all have our very own thresholds separating what’s easy to “digest” and what requires a frightening experience, it also takes a tad of luck on our side for us to not see the reality and how we were in the right place at the right time.
For example, when going somewhere new several acquaintances with more experience than you might recommend to do X and not to do Y and Z, which at the time might sound odd but it’s really up to your mindset to follow the instructions up to certain point, or not. Maybe the suggested path works better and without many bumps on the road that what you were planning to do, maybe yours is a longer path but less tricky.
Another example would be your relationship with that particular friend/cousin/acquaintance, with which you’ve developed certain trust and can navigate through a variety of dangerous topics; until you realize you’ve been careless. Maybe your acquaintance doesn’t like that topic at all, maybe it triggers him/her into anger or sadness, and the only way for you to understand it is by getting him/her to not hold the feelings any longer and burst out into emotion. Now you see the truth.
The tiniest amount of luck can save us from seeing the reality of things by putting us in the midst of our comfort zone.
