How many of you there love the Rev? I know I do....
It's easy to see why The Reverend Horton Heat is so popular - even in mainstream circles.
With hilarious story lines to the lyrics, and the classic trademark sound of the Gretsch and Double Bass. These guys will take you on a high energy journey through the world of country, surf and psychobilly flavours.
Death Metal Guys takes me back to the late 80's and 90's - the tail ends of 12 years of Blazer and tie - the unfortunate Catholic schooling system, that I survived.... and my resurfacing out the other side....then the real world.
It all started at school... identifying yourself with a scene, group or sub-culture you thought yourself as a credible member of....
I remember the the different circles sitting in "their spot" at recess. "We" were officially the outcasts, the skaters, the puss faced young grommets with a Dead Kennedy's symbol hacked into our desk's....and a desire to piss on an A croud-ers uniform - as it was hung in the locker rooms whilst they worshipped the oval ball of rugby.
So yeah rivalry and the hate ran deep at time's....
It was funny who we'd seek alliances with, not dissimilar to the prison yard. We had the backing of the goths, who were busy painting nails, a stray nerd that lost his way and the odd rude-boy - who were the neutral cool kids. This was great cause the rude's had free ranging rights with the skins who could be called upon if one of us needed extra ammunition. Quite the complex landscape for a bunch of 16 n 17 year old's....
We moved on from the school yard to the street's, the night clubs and live music venues only to witness the same sub-cultures and alliances out here in the wild.
These days we all just get the blanket alternative label, if we don't follow the norm...
Oh except for the Death Metal Guys...
You're still on your own - someone even wrote a song about you...
