Last night, actually. A bunch of us were online and came across yet another news story of a Republican being arrested for inappropriate contact with children. And we just went, “Whoa, what a shock – another pedo.”
It sounds dark, but that’s exactly why it made me laugh. For me, it’s like Devo – you’ve got to have the strength to laugh in the face of the opponent. When you’re staring down what feels like the inevitable end of society, laughing is defiance. It’s like spitting in the eye of the hurricane.
I’m still a stoic at heart — I believe in just getting on with the work — but I love that stance of laughing at impending doom and showing you’re not afraid. Like, bring it. Maybe I survive, maybe I don’t. And if I don’t? Well, if I come back as an irradiated mutant, I’m just gonna start eating rich people. And that idea had me laughing my ass off.
