Honestly, this happens to me all the time now. Musically, aesthetically, spiritually, even in food. I never thought I’d like sushi – now I love it. I never thought I’d connect with spirituality, but through cannabis, I’ve found a real relationship with it. There are these tiny, mundane things I didn’t expect to care about that now mean everything to me. A really well-worn pair of blue jeans. Porridge in the morning. Sitting quietly and being grateful.
I spent so much of my life in survival mode, in trauma mode, that I never really stopped to ask myself who I was or what I wanted. When I finally asked that question, things started to unlock. I found confidence I didn’t know I had. I started paying attention to the small, innocuous details of life, and when you put all those little things together, they create something much bigger.
I think that’s why these pleasant surprises matter so much to me now. They’re proof that life keeps opening up if you let it. If you’re willing to look around, notice what’s on the shelf, and say, “Huh – I didn’t think I’d like that… but I love it.”
