6 and a half minutes of pure, evocative haze. Well worth taking the long route home.
This song reminds me of the hyper-realism that I personally associate with midnight journeys and desolate drives. The idea that you are between a space of your own physical reality and yet also an everlasting and intangible nostalgia.
The melody remains mellow and understated throughout. A steady, mid-tempo beat introduces the listener to the track, eventually joined with soothing vocals. The instrumentation is central to the overall sense of dreamlike ambiguity and fluidity; synths and chords alongside a guitar motif that flows in and out of the listener’s consciousness.
As the the tempo drastically decreases, the tones gain more depth and the synths expand rapidly, the expression resembles something otherworldly and completely immersive - like you’re on the cusp of a cosmic revelation, an epiphany about life or death or love or some other.
The track has an enigmatic nature which feels abstract and hard to grasp. This is why it stands out to me - it requires not just listening, but listening with intention (plus, all the more reason to play on repeat!)
A track that will leave you feeling inspired, mesmerised and haunted in the best possible way.
