Guillaume and Jonathan Alric, the cousins behind French duo the Blaze, aim for big themes on the album Dancehall. The very first sounds you hear are piano chords so rich and full you want to wrap yourself up in them like a very expensive coat. The bass throughout is among the heaviest you’ll hear on any record this year, yet it never sounds ugly or rough. Even at its most forceful, the Blaze’s music never bangs you over the head; it’s enveloping, like a wave.
Initial cuts from French duo The Blaze showcased their electronic influences, however with this new album they’ve gone above and beyond with their sizzling percussions, mournful vocals and trance-like sounds. The most of the album conveys buoyant tracks, the backing is the prominent essence of each track and it’s clear the vocals aren’t at the main point of the narrative. 'Faces' is an inspired track creates nicely for a relaxing summer, long car journey bop. You’ll feel an overwhelming sense of love and light oozing out of every pore. This optimism and energy is endearing.
