Only a handful of things are more soulful than this. Widely regarded his best song to date, The Book of Soul is 5 minutes worth of soul-baring content. On a dark jazz-styled instrumental, characterized by a beautiful piano runs, angelic background vocals and cool drums, Soul does as his namesake insinuates. Soulo rhymes intricately as he tells his story, the Book of Soul. With pessimistic undertones and anxiety filled cadences to match, Ab-Soul flips similes and metaphor as he indulges on his past, present and future.
He references Christianity and the Bible, his then girlfriend (of 7 years) committing suicide, health struggles with Steven Johnson Syndrome alongside his academic and family issues. It’s alluring storytelling with excellent replay value. After conducting more research, it becomes even greater. It’s an elite song displaying Ab-Soul’s ability and an easy candidate to P the Soul into Hip-Hop.

About The Curator - Dithekgo Mogadime
A Hip-Hop purist at heart. Currently pursuing a law degree. I love anything related to music (specifically – R&B, jazz & hip-hop), sports (specifically – football, rugby, basketball & golf) and fashion.
I find most enjoyment in laying back, listening to music and interacting with my friends. If not socializing, I’m bound to be shouting at my TV – trying to tell Eden Hazard to shoot as he flicks the ball unnecessary. Sometimes I spend hours glued at my screen, watching Netflix in bed.
I’m a kind, cool and collected persona. I tend to live life without limits, finding enjoyment in every action and keep smiling through it all. I would sacrifice anything to keep my loved ones happy. I’m supportive and I’m happiest when everybody around me is smiling and shinning.
