Nothing like an ode to the summer than this gem. If I was to pick a 2018 summer track, this one would hit the mark. Why? Simply, the rhythms. This mellow R&B track sums up that summertime feeling, opening with steel drums that immediately take you to paradise. A place of joy! I’m a sucker for an island flare, anything that can remind be of being on white sand surrounded by clear blue waters, is going to sway me.
The real magic of this song happens right at the 1:15 minute mark, as African-marimba grooves merge with electronic beats. I’m immediately swept away in rhythmic vibrations as Gambino’s cadence, “do love me do” chants behind those drums. Gambino croons, “It’s your summertime magic, that makes me wanna dance all night long”, reminds us to just get lost in those rhythms and keep moving! And that’s exactly how I want to end those summer nights and think you should too! Remember it’s all about warming the soul. So go ahead and dive into those magic rhythms!
Childish Gambino is the musical persona singer/songwriter, actor, and TV producer Donald Glover. Gambino teamed up with long-time producer/collaborator Ludwig Goransson to release a two-song Summer Pack EP on July 11, 2018, which also included another summer vibe supported by tropical beats and percussions, “Feels Like Summer.” Giving us two classics to remember Summer 2018! Make sure you end the summer right!
