Because it’s Women’s Month, I want to continue to spotlight women artists whose music continues to warm my soul and feel will be a great addition to your music library! It’s honestly, not enough days in this month to highlight everyone, so I will be highlighting some tracks that I believe don’t get enough credit for their contributions.
“Come Share My Love” by Miki Howard is one of those R&B gems from 80s that might have gotten overlooked due to the mountain of talent at the time, ranging from Whitney, Luther, Freddie, Anita, Regina, Chaka, Aretha, etc., I mean the list is endless when it comes to 80s R&B! However, Miki’s talent was unmatched and overshadowed. Another powerful vocalist of this generation, Miki’s range and distinct tone set her apart from all the artists listed. “Come Share My Love” was originally penned for Whitney Houston but when Whitney turned it down, it was offered to Miki. Released on her 1986 debut album titled off the lead track, this song is the perfect introduction to Miki’s talent! Peaking at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles in 1986, this track solidified Miki’s talent in a pool of greats!
Miki Howard is an American singer and actress born in Chicago, Illinois. She is born of musical heritage as the daughter of gospel singers Josephine Howard of The Caravans, and Clay Graham of the Pilgrim Jubilees. Howard was influenced by Aretha Franklin, Mavis Stables, jazz greats Nancy Wilson, Dinah Washington, and Billie Holiday, whom she portrayed in the 1992 bio-pic Malcolm X. Miki’s vocal talent possess the influence of all these great artists, everything from soul, jazz, gospel, and blues. Definitely, one of those artists you should just give a listen for some variety. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
