It is no secret that music exhibiting soul & groove has a special place in… well my soul. It’s evidenced by this very playlist and my mission to track down the best emerging RnB artists. I’m finding they all hail from LONDON. Seriously America, London is kicking our ass on this front atm. But I digress, once again, another promising artist takes us across the pond to what is fast becoming the land of silky smooth grooves.
Ross, pleasure to virtually meet you. Let’s start with the source, what drew you to music?
Making and listening to music is really the only thing that takes me out of my thoughts. It really focuses me. People talk about flow state and that’s what I love about it, I’m exactly where I want to be when there’s music involved
Tell us about how your journey started and where you see it going?
I do wish sometimes I was one of those kids that started playing guitar at 3 or something but that’s just not the case haha. I started playing the drums when I was 11, But didn’t really get into guitar, singing and songwriting until I was about 17/18. Piano came next but it’s only in the past 3/4 years have I gotten into producing and I’m enjoying it so much, it’s a place to capture all my Ideas with the potential to manipulate them in millions of ways. I feel like I’ve found my groove with my music now, and it’s gaining traction. I’m just going to keep releasing, with the view of putting out an EP before the end of the year. Then I would love to tour this and do some travelling in-between. That’s the dream.
Producing is magical in its ability to teleport you from your mind into another world. Very excited for your EP. Do you have a dream feature?
Yeah, I completely agree! I guess Jordan Rakei is a huge influence of mine so he would be a dream feature. But, I’d also love to work on some more electronic stuff with the likes of Harvey Sutherland.
You spoke of travel, where are you based out of, and where are you performing first?
I’m based in South London, lived here my whole life so that’s where I’d be performing first. But, I’m actually quite keen to live in a new city soon. Possibly Berlin!
South London definitely seems like the neo soul spot right now! Jordan Rakei is actually one of my favorite artists too from that area.
What’s one smaller artist/independent artist you think deserves more love?
I guess he’s not that small but Royce Wood Junior is making some amazing music at the moment!
Thanks for your time and the recommendation Ross. Did not know Royce but am now a converted fan. his sound. Has an almost Stevie Wonder energy at times. Everyone go stream “Home” in the Silky Smooth with the Groove playlist. ALSOOO make sure to follow the playlist and Ross wherever on the internet you hangout!
