Imagine yourself sitting by a fireplace, the room glowing a warm red, wrapped in the arms of a lover, with absolutely no end to the night in sight. Now the perfect soundtrack to that scenario, that’s “Warm on a Cold Night.”
Written and performed by indie-electrosoul duo HONNE, “Warm on a Cold Night” is, simply put, an ode to love. The duo, consisting of singer-songwriter Andy Clutterbuck and producer James Hatcher, initially wrote the song completely in the dark, claiming it to be the best way to write, but basically ensuring that the song is perfect to listen to at night. Like the title suggests, the track envelops the listener in a warmth that shimmers and crackles like a fire but with an excitement that matches that of a new love. Basically, it’s the modern day “Baby It’s Cold Outside.”
The track starts out with a retro, vinyl-scratch-infused introduction that ‘sets the mood’ for a lovely night with someone special. Immediately after, however, we get Andy’s smooth and soulful voice to lull us into the main groove of the track. The funky guitar paired with the echoey claps build up this unexpected tension that eventually just makes you want to dance. So while it may start out sounding shiny and smooth, as soon as the chorus hits, you will not be able to keep yourself from moving with the beat.
And while the guitars throughout the track continue to jump in and out of the spotlight, the chorus of voices on the titular line also must be recognized. The harmonies during the chorus sitting on top of the bright instrumentation work together to create a soundscape that’s not only full but cozy. The bridge however, draws listeners back to reality, calming them with some lone instrumentation and Andy’s glossy voice. So, when we jump back into the chorus again, the track seems to be even livelier than before. At the very end of the party, we’re given another couple seconds of radio static like the intro, thus letting the track fade in and out seamlessly. Essentially, if you’re looking for a fun listen with an old-fashioned feel, check out this week’s track: “Warm on a Cold Night.”

About the Curator: Rhea Patil
As an 18 year old who just moved to New York City to study Music Business at NYU, I’m constantly finding myself in unfamiliar territory and have come to realize I’m not going to settle in anytime soon. So, while I’ve been exploring the city and growing from each experience, I’ve racked up a pretty extensive list of the best music I’ve come across and want to keep sharing this art with you. When I'm not discovering and sharing new music though, I'm writing and creating my own music to share with the world. In fact, I’m working on releasing my debut EP right now!
