Born Luis Roberto Julião, Sorry Drummer is a Brazilian drummer and producer who brings a soulful approach to hip hop. His music is awesome, but I believe he also deserves credit for being able to reunite amazing artists and make it even better, like he does in this song.

American Nightmare – Misfits

 In our late teens, early twenties we were a group of loose life-styled, skate punks, surfers and alternatives. I don’t know if it was the exposure or culture of growing up on the tough working class streets, but somehow we all evolved into gas guzzling Muscle car drivers and Harley riders….. We brought our own special blend of noise pollution to the suburbs, supercharged Punk Rock and the deep gurgle of ratty V8 yank tanks.

When something is born it has its own pace, rhythm, truth.   Given the time and opportunity to be itself, it will thrive.  When in this space, it speaks to us completely, only giving, sharing without want.  It is intensely beautiful and moving, it is exquisite.  

Perfectly executed, Nick Cave has felt the truth of this exceptional piece, leaving out all the things which oppose its nature.

Talk Tonight – Oasis

“Talk Tonight” of Oasis’ B-sides-album The Masterplan (1998) is my favorite track by far. And Oasis is one of my favorite bands, so to me it’s basically one of the best songs ever written. 

Pilot – The Notwist

One of my favorite albums of all time is Neon Golden (2002) by The Notwist. They’re a band from a small town in Bavaria, not far from where I grew up. The Notwist aren’t a household name internationally by far. But if you’re a German and you’ve just looked at an actual record store (not one of those gigantic electronic stores like Best Buy or such) in your teens, you know of them. You probably know this very album.

Back in 2011, I worked as an intern for Rolling Stone Germany one of my favorite tasks was finding a band to watch. Some time in summer or fall, I don’t remember which, I stumbled across this song. The band’s name 1,2,3 is an absolute nightmare to google so it was kind of hard to find out more about them…

Majesty – Madrugada

Madrugada’s “Majesty” has been a constant companion in my life. First of all, the accompanying album Grit (2002) is a rock masterpiece. It sways between the melancholy beauty of songs like “Majesty,” and also storms on to thrash about with tracks like album-opener “Blood Shot Adult Commitment”. It’s a behemoth of an album, straying from blues and Krautrock over to alternative and industrial rock.

I wanted to bring back the Local Natives, Kasier Chiefs I started off towards the beginning of the playlist. I have learned with my friends that The National is either a hit or a miss. I just love the sadness in Matt Berninger’s voice, no matter how upbeat or loud the song is, you can always hear the sadness.
