I honestly don’t know where to start with this guy. He’s in charge of transforming this cheesy mood we were having for the last two week into a nice indie upbeat.
Taught himself piano since he was 6 years old, grew up listening Linkin Park, Yellowcard and then Coldplay changed his world. Today he gets inspiration from any kind of genre (even heavy metal!) and his music has an original upbeat.
His last EP is completely self-produced and he will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the sales of towards PSA Behavioral Health Agency in Phoenix, AZ. This week’s song was picked from this EP and has really nice details that we can talk about.
First of all, I beg your pardon of all the things I’m gonna be analysing next and how I will be relating stuff.
Now, let’s start with the song. At the beginning, that sweet melody on the piano made me immediately remember the beginning of the song “When She Loved Me” - Toy Story 2 Jessie’s song (Pixar’s Fan alert!). That childhood’s trigger made me reflect on what Dylan was singing immediately because, as in the movie, they were introducing the universe around that song. Call me crazy but this bit I just told you, it can be check by any of you and realised I’m not so crazy.
The rhythm with the bass and drums is practically amazing! (that’s my own expression when I really liked something and I don’t accept opinions about it - Practically Amazing) and when it got mixed with the piano intro for the 2nd part of the song… that was a sweet touch giving that piano “riff” one more chance to be heard.
A big thing I want to highlight is the growth of lyrics and music as the song progresses. I normally complain about the used of the “growing technique” when the lyrics are not actually evolving and makes the explosion just music without a message. In this case, he used the clock word to build up the explosion - “Let the clock move a little bit slower 'Cause we are not getting any younger” - and it was perfect to bring the chorus back again with more power on his voice. I really liked all the resources he used and how nice is to see he’s not using ideas from just one genre. Top hat salute to this song and his author.
One more thing about him is that I had the pleasure of getting in contact with him and he accepted the idea of an interview to know more about him and his last EP.
Great human being, talented musician and highly recommended to be followed.

About the curator - Rodrigo Medrano
At a very early age, music had an incredible impact on Rodrigo’s life. He was never able to listen to lullaby songs; instead he was served Guns n’ Roses and Aerosmith for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
At the age of 12, he became a melomaniac, collecting albums, EP’s, recording sessions, and researching every kind of genre. All this helped him to get his first job at a recording studio where he realized his life would forever revolve around sound and music.
Working on cruise ships as First Audio Technician allowed him to let loose his passion and expand his knowledge on psychoacoustics, eventually promoted up to being in charge of sound for the hit broadway shows: Rock of Ages and Burn The Floor.
His music library will never stop growing as his melomania will get worse and worse.
