This song perhaps is a personal choice, Amongster was an artist I took a chance on seeing, I was in Brussels on a training trip and I wanted to try go and see him perform after hearing tracks. My friend and I waiting outside to try get a scalp ticket and I bought one off a teacher who’d come to watch the show selling at face value, my friend went inside talked to the box office and was told it was sold out but then someone came in and left the extra ticket at the desk so my mate got in free. Our dedicate wait was rewarding to see the next big thing to come from Belgium, incredibly intelligible Euphoric chilled indie from Amongster an unassuming character with original ideas. This song captures that feeling of taking a chance and waiting to get into a gig, some how making your way in perhaps by blagging seeing something new and fresh and then spending the whole journey home talking about it, how you and your friends witnessed that special moment. As Amongster croons in the song: ‘After the night the stories ignite’ affirming that this is the kind of show you’ll reflect upon for years! The drum tone working with bass is perfect and soft in the song, and listen out for that gorgeous violin line. Yes I’m a sucker for strings on the late night drive home. Return to Playlist

Sam Murray is a liability when it come to music, he harbours a secret passion for cheese but most of all actually believe the Eurovision Song Contest has good songs, and that if he played them to you without knowing it was from the contest, you would love it too! It is said if you cut Sam open out will fall a punch card for a music box and a drum for a heart powered by every step he takes. He is a professional clarinetist and plays in several bands in a variety of style. He also holds a Masters Degree in Popular Music, so you would hope he knows his stuff, and is currently working towards a Popular Music PhD exploring the music scene in Portland Oregon. There’s something about metronomic repetition that just conveys the idea of “Come on – let’s go…”  The opening of the track sounds as though it’s written in 2/4 time – the classic marching beat – and that was intentional – the entire first minute is designed to have you thinking about getting started – getting moving – getting to flow.

Creatively – Katy Forkings

Black & Blue – Samantha Whates

I first came across Samantha Whates when she performed as a backup singer for Jess Bryant at the union chapel when I played there many moons go. I was intrigued by her voice and decided to check out her own material and this track ‘Black & Blue’ stood out for me with its lush guitar part, a bit of glockenspiel and strings, you know I love those strings.
