This playlist was lacking the right amount of jazz and this track does more than make up the difference it inspires, it beguiles and it understands the journey home. There is something in the way Ray Bryant plays that says I feel you and this track is his ‘let me play you something that might help’ moment as almost on command he gets you tonight in that car and after a generous tip is going to pull out one of his best numbers. Everyone else in the joint has gone the last drags of smoke are flowing out the almost finished cigarette in the ashtray on Bryant’s piano, and as that smoke flows and the night comes around, this is one for the road. The folks on bass and drums just know what to do as well accompanying Ray with dreamy ease.
Now don’t listen to this when driving as it’s one for the eyelid closures, mind drifters, and sleep gatherers. You might drift off so maybe use this one as a tune to come down when in bed getting ready to sleep as you probably don’t want to miss your stop either. This is one for the closed door warm wrapped in duvet moments where you need to come right down to the perfect level to sleep and slip into dreams. Ray’s taking care of this one for you, just let him do the work.
