“Away from here, going nowhere never felt so good.
Turn under my feet energy will fill our cheeks, one more time is all I need.”
In their latest release, LA band Be Good Boy makes going nowhere feel like going somewhere home deep inside. The song’s lyrics express a disgust and dysphoria with ones’ body and existence, interrelated with a melodic atmosphere coated in a reminiscent sense of a deeper acceptance. “Going Nowhere” addresses the ballad of one’s inner push to be going somewhere with a warm blanket made of a reminder that the ups and downs; the swells, stirs, advances, stagnancies, and recesses are all part of the journey and just as important.
“Going Nowhere” is beautifully mixed and orchestrated, the song blends together a pool of tones, melodies, and rhythms into a gooey, amniotic flow. The song moves through simultaneous stasis and awakening. Be Good Boy, a six piece band, are masters at weaving many tones into one fabric. Off skelter but stable, “Going Nowhere” taps into the truth of the human experience that we can never know exactly where it is we are going, so we might as well not strain ourselves too much on trying to judge ourselves, others, or our situations, despite our desire to do so. Through the song, the bass line pounds a steady rhythm, like how time moves the same whether things seem to be moving fast or slow, or how maybe our fever dreams aren’t worth that much more than time spent relaxing with loved ones.
Any artist is familiar with the constant pound to create, to constantly feel progress and to feel updated. “Going Nowhere” comforts that coming as you are is alright too. Take a listen!
“I wish our heads agree on what my body says to me,
I wish you’d fucking see that I dread my stupid beek.
All I ever do is think how I somehow get myself up out this mess keeping up with timestamps to prove how far my pain has came.
Before I cave, slave away to all I crave.
This seems to be the way I’m raised, it's okay.
Giving up don’t ever feel too good on someone’s brain.”
