Recently, the Music To community came together to put together a playlist with an uplifting and inspiring message. Given everything around us at the moment, 'Music To Connect To' is befitting and, perhaps, necessary. I had the privilege of arranging this playlist which basically means I was lucky enough to listen to every track submission many times over.
Maria Fish from Music to Explore Everything sent across Fazon by Sopwith Camel. I am not sure if it's my relative age (compared with Sopwith Camel's) or that psychedelic rock lost its moment, but for whatever reason, I didn't know this band and it's making me wonder why. Fazon is pretty much an anthem for the age in which it was written--easy guitar and a groovy loop imbuing this sort of laid back vibe that all the same questions something. In the case of Fazon, it could be the obscure "Who's going to live/ in all those cities underground/ If they move there/ will they ever come out, of the ground." To my mind, that can only be a rant against the capitalist systems of the world but I could be wrong. But if that is the case, it's as true today as it was in 1971.
Thanks to Maria, we are reminded that questioning is all we can do right now. Fazon, indeed.
