Walk further along the roots of Stevens stories…
Steven Sedalia in the musicto Light
The sounds of Steven are Life stories – a healing hand being held out to walk with you. Here he crafts his vision of life with questions about the spirit of his creations for all to learn through…
1. What about life makes you passionate?
Exploration. Learning. Connecting ideas and discovering patterns. Nature. Big questions. Bigger mysteries. Blackberries. New songs. Finding and making meaning. The movement toward the divine. Most of all – people. Our collective history. The art we make. The stories we tell. The bonds we form.
The love we give.2. Tell us about this new song.
“On My Way” is a hero’s journey song. It’s a call to adventure; a reminder to listen to the heart in times of trial. Your path is written somewhere already and the world is working to help you find your way. It’s up to each of us to listen for the flickering voice that guides us toward destiny. It’s a fun track, playful in a way. My friend and fellow singer songwriter Ben Livermore and I wrote the song together, with help from our bassist friend Adam Harris. This song is the first single on my upcoming album Between the Beloved and Me, that will release in early 2025.3. Do you think you chose to create music or music chose you to create?
I think when we are creating, in the sense of going into the unknown and bringing back something from the mystery itself, there is a sense that the artist is not alone in this process. He is accompanied by what’s classically known as the muses. I sometimes think of it like a spirit of exploration and ingenuity in our own nature that reaches into the mystery to transform chaos into beauty. I can’t claim to know the intentions of the mystery or its goals. My intrigue leads me to want to ‘merge’ with its patterns. It’s strange to congeal into words but songs may be released when a harmony is achieved: Songs exist in the ethers, and when the explorer is calibrated to the right pattern, the song with that corresponding pattern is unlocked and can enter into our realm through the artist. That may simply be a poetic way to describe what happens. Why that happens is another question. Another way to say it may be, it feels good to express your thoughts and feelings. To answer the question directly, we choose each other.Below are the remaining queries that will be answered in Part Two of this landscape. Return to learn as Steven shares the rest of his home of thoughts and an album carrying the rest of him with it in the coming months…
4. How have you developed or evolved alongside what you create?
5. If you had to express your essence with a song, what would that song be and why?
6. What are you curious about at the moment? Why?
7. Do you believe music can be a source of repair? Think of a misunderstanding you’ve had with a loved one. What song would you have given them to capture what you wanted to convey and perhaps were unable to.
Maria has found listening itself to take the shape of Life itself. In return she is here to reflect upon the Life that is held in the home of Steven. This is the experience that was shaped from the listening of “On My Way”…
am i on my way to feeling how special we are
how special it all is
am I on my way to being the gift that I always was
that always is
am i on my way to forgive
to truly live
am i on my way
