Have you ever listened to Music to Fight Evil?
Have you ever taken time to read the write ups?
I’m writing to highly recommend it!
🙂
On the week that Jon publishes his 100th track I thought it might be cool to throw a little spotlight on one of the true OG playlists on musicto.
Jon published his first track – I Give You Power by Arcade Fire and Mavis Staples – back on 7th March 2017, just a few months after Mr. Trump became President of the United States of America. In the current shit show that is western democracy – I can’t think of a better song to start a playlist with.
That’s the thing about this list – it’s not made up of tracks – it’s made up of songs – and songs are different – songs are hard – songs need not only great music, they need great words too.
The songs on this list have history – they have a story – they’re here to remind you that people in power do bad things and that it’s our job – yes – yours and mine – to do something if we want to stop them. Yet the cool thing about the list is that, instead of coming across all preachy and – you know – kind of annoying – the music is so compellingly delivered that you can’t help but listen.
Three years in the making, it’s an example of what a great playlist can be – you’ll experience different eras, genres, cultures and production values but one thing that shines through every note and every word – is authenticity.
Congratulations Jon for reaching this milestone and thank you for supporting the idea of musicto from its early beginnings – we’ve come a long way and it’s lists like yours that have got us here.
Here’s to the next 100:
