Many jellyfish are familiar with the very large island in the Pacific Ocean comprised of the nation of Papua New Guinea and the future nation of West Papua.  In fact, this island is home to one fifth of all the species of living things on earth, as well as one fifth of all human languages.  Sadly, West Papua is currently occupied and oppressed by Indonesia and is the scene of one of the least publicized ongoing human rights atrocities in the world, largely funded by a US gold & copper mining company and other greedy outsiders.

Mariana Trench – Cesium Swimsuit & Belial Pelegrim

16 January 2018

We jellyfish don’t fear the depths.  We don’t easily succumb to pressure.  It is believed that some of us even descend as far as 10,000 meters — almost to the bottom of the deepest place on earth, the Mariana Trench.

We jellyfish change form a few times over the course of a lifetime.  We call these phases in our life cycle.  We are born as a planula or larva.  We find a solid enough base and plant ourselves as a polyp.  We eat and eat and form colonies of polyps until we are ready to float away as an ephyra.  Finally we grow into an adult medusa — the jellyfish you know and love.

Somewhere over the Rainbow – Israel “Iz” Kamakawiwoʻole

We jellyfish love islands, and a great many of us make our home around the islands of Hawaii.  There, from the clear blue waters where Hawaii lives, many of us once heard a voice so pure and beautiful ring out from the land, we will never forget it.  That was the voice of Iz.

The Dealer – Bro Safari & UFO!

It’s a beautiful day on the beach.  The sun is shining, the water is peaceful.  Time for a swim.  The water caresses your skin as you glide through the currents.

Something grazes your foot, perhaps some seaweed.  Suddenly, a pain shoots up your leg like a fire in a wall cavity.  A bullet of venom is shot from a translucent organic pistol straight up into the sole of your foot.

The jellyfish is busy – pressed for time.  Survival is a series of opportunities, and any missed chance could be your last.  The ocean is vast and full of chances to stay alive, but they won’t all come to you of their own accord.  The jellyfish must move and keep moving.

Intermission – D Mills

28 November 2017

Full of worms, prawns and fat little fish after a truly monumental feed, we doze off and dream our jellyfish dreams.  The dreams are neither good nor bad — just a circling tableau of confusing images.  We try to find meaning in the images.  Sometimes we find it.

Call Me (Tribal Realities Remix) – Dub Terminator feat. Melloquence

21 November 2017

The jellyfish descends again to colder waters.  We don’t mind the pressure down deep.  Inside out or outside in says the jellyfish.  Either way is fine, as long as I’m fed.

Stupid Muthafuckas (30 Minutes to War) – Group Home

14 November 2017

Tossed around by dismal weather like some inconsequential debris, the jellyfish feels raw.  Have to look inwards with a clear mind and live inside this dark primal agitation for a moment.  Allow the anger to flow through and then out.

Well and Good – Fold

8 November 2017

Our jellyfish celebrates the coming of winter by surfacing to warm up in the sunshine.  Can’t stay too long, lest we evaporate, but we go anyway.  Surfing the currents and letting the rays wash over us, we hear the soulful slow dance of some funky music on the waves.

Thug Love – JiKay & MNKN

Slowly contract and expand, contract and expand.  The rings spin to bring water in.  Suddenly, a shadow on the periphery grows very large.

Low Down – Horace Parlan

24 October 2017

The jellyfish heads for deeper waters to cool off with some hyper smooth jazz.  This track by Horace Parlan cuts through the noise of the world with the speed and precision of a glacier.
