Altın Gün, translated “gold day”, is a Dutch music project. They cover Turkish psychedelic essentials with their own style. The band consists of two Turks, Merve Daşdemir and Erdinç Ecevit Yıldız. But the projects was originally found by the bassist, Jasper Verhulst. With the increasing popularity of Turkish psychedelic music in Europe, they became the stars of many known European music festivals.
They cover many known Turkish psychedelic artists from the 70s like Selda Bağcan, Özdemir Erdoğan, Neşe Karaböcek, 3 Hürel and Barış Manço. An interesting thing is that, the band mostly performs to an audience that speak different languages than Turkish. The member Merve Daşdemir explains this: “To me, singing in Turkish to a foreign audience is really fun. Nobody understands what I am saying but nevertheless they are trying to sing along. And this is the beauty and the universality of music.”
