With the infinite universe that is the musical landscape, it’s easy to get lost, hide in the security of what you already know and give up exploring the rest of it altogether. I totally get it, it can be exhausting to try and keep up with everything new and different that’s coming out and also have the retrospect of looking backwards to find the gems lost in the flow of time.
That’s where this playlist comes in: my goal is to curate a playlist that incorporates as many genres as possible to paint a picture of all the greatest music that came out since the 1800’s to today.
I know it sounds crazy, but I’m up for the task.
This also means that is not meant to be listened to like a normal playlist – of course you can listen to it however you like, but my intent is to give you something to browse through to find something that you never heard before that catches your ear and, based on that, go in the beautiful rabbit hole that is discovering a new favourite band or kind of music.
Because that’s one of my greatest joys in life, and I want to share it with you.
More Rain – Samurai
30 September 2020
Records like this are just an example among countless others of unique expressions of personality that are lost in time, as we tend to mostly scout the present for new stuff to listen to, we often forget to look backwards for forgotten gems like this one.
Cocktail Party How Glad Am I – Matmos
22 September 2020
These kinds of projects are not exactly easy to listen, it takes some effort to really appreciate the creative and innovative instincts of Matmos, but it is thanks to these boundaries pushing artists that music keeps moving towards new and exciting directions.
Cumbia de la Amistad – Meridian Brothers
22 September 2020
This unlikely marriage of concepts results in a weird but charming experiment that features ear grabbing melodies and danceable rhythmic sections performed by an array of originally designed synths and drums.
