The sense of longing throughout Ostroushko’s album, *Minnesota* is remarkable. Any track gets me writing. “North of the Prairie Stars” is a fine representative from this inspired album.

Cruisin – Oshana

When I first visited Berlin from San Francisco I had a very different idea of the underground sound of electronic music that completely changed after my visit. I was hearing for the first time a sound that I can only explain as a fusion of minimal and deep house that really got me excited for the first time in a while. When I returned home I began spending hours finding more and more of this kind of music. It was during this search and through a DJ mix from a DJ named Anthea that I would discover Oshana.

I’m a huge Hans Zimmer fan – oh sure, his music is just nuts – beautifully put together and always matching the film perfectly – and aside from the fact that we both use the same DAW – what I love is that I made it into one of his scores!

I’ve been away on vacation for a week – Australia – it was awesome – but – trying to get back into the writing groove has been a bear.  Which is why I’ve been particularly stoked about this track.  It’s been on repeat for the last hour and I just burned through the first 6 items on my to do list that could have taken my days!

Altaret Restes – Evigt Mörker

A few years ago I happened to stumble across the music of Evigt Mörker a techno producer based in Sweden. I instantly fell in love as soon as I heard his music, one thing that is important for me is that the music really takes me on a journey and gets my imagination running wild. Evigt’s music does just that, he has a techno sound like no other, the music sweeps you away into another world that is full of color and beautiful melodies.

Often credited as one of the godfathers of rap music, Gil Scott-Heron didn’t set out to be a singer-songwriter. He started his career as a youngster writing poetry but a cult legend was born when jazz producer Bob Thiele – recognising the raw charisma of Scott-Heron’s vocal delivery – set Scott-Heron’s poetry to music for the first time. These early recordings included The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, a scything indictment of white America’s blind ignorance of racial issues.

Moment – Justin Cudmore

During my weekly hunt for new music to play in my upcoming sets I stumbled across a new artist that I never had heard of before. Justin Cudmore’s track “Moment” is a track that is meant to be used in those special moments in the club where as a DJ you know you have the audience at your finger tips and it bring you nothing but joy to keep building it up to the delight of the audience.

I love tracks that open like this – there’s an immediate sense of energy and urgency and yet – it’s not overwhelming or overpowering – it just picks you up and gently carries you along.  Perfect opening track for an essay writing playlist.

Exactly the sentiment that the Fight Evil playlist was created for, this is a song for anyone who has washed their hands of the current crop of hypocritical politicians and demands an alternative.

It’s also a belter of a protest song by a melodic pop punk three-piece from the outer limits of London.
