Nine tracks to get you up and going
Hello (feat. Dragonette) – Martin Solveig
Just revisited this song and just makes me want to dance and forget about my worries. I think that’s what a euphoric song is for me. One that gets me out of my head and just has be dancing or singing in some way.
There She Goes, My Beautiful World – Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
Occasionally you’ll find me in the studio – late at night, family asleep, speakers cranked up, ecstatic, unhinged grin plastered across my face and listening to this track.
I get Nick Cave – I love his lyrics – the darkness – the rawness – the sheer intellect of the man and yet – this song exists – and I’m so fucking here for it. How do you take the stories of individual tortured artists and turn them into the most joyful expression of being alive?
I don’t know – but Nick did – every time the chorus kicks in you’ll find me leaping out of my chair – swinging my hips like an Aretha Franklin backup singer – punching the air and requesting the same divine gift.
Euphoric? Hell Yeah!
The Noetic – BT, Matt Fax.
It’s very hard to pick a single euphoric track, but this one does stand out as one that’s been real handy for getting me out of a funk in the past. I could sit and dissect the specific things I love about this track, but I feel like that might take something away from what makes it so effective. I s’pose when it comes down to it, it makes me happy, it makes me feel like things are going to be okay, and it makes me want to do something incredible (even if that something incredible is just clearing my inbox)
I love it and I hope you love it too
I Can’t Stay – The killers
I am going with “I Can’t Stay” by The Killers. I dug into my old school iTunes app and looked for my most played song and this was the clear winner. Once I started playing it, I said, “Ahhhh, yes, this is the one!” I have always adored this song. I like the beat that it begins with, I love the lyrics, the harp that comes through giving it a thrilling trill, the hint of calypso in there. Whenever I hear it, I immediately start bopping around and smiling. Most Killers song make me pretty darn happy and bring me back to a time in my twenties when the biggest decision was where we were going to party on the weekend, or just about every night of the week if I’m being honest.
Feel It Still – Portugal. The Man
Ha. The first one that springs to mind is that very famous song from Portugal, the Man. I know, overplayed, but I remember the first time I heard it. I had this overwhelming feeling that I just had to know what the song was. I couldn’t pay attention to anything else. Literally every time it comes on I immediately start dancing. It’s damn near pathological.
Growth of Raindrops – Warm Digits, featuring Sarah Cracknell
We should all have music in our lives that can trigger euphoria like turning on a tap and there’s something about this whirlpool of an indie dance song from back in 2017 that makes me want to spin around and around like a blissful toddler when the chorus kicks in. “Television, radio, I don’t know whch way to go…” sings Saint Etienne vocalist Sarah Cracknell, whose wholesome, soothing, honeyed alto brings the summer for me at any time of year. I don’t know what that means, but it courses through me like adrenaline until there’s a beaming smile on my face.
What It Is To Burn – Finch
I know it’s the ultimate emo white trash song, but I don’t care. This hits differently for me. Singalong chorus, angst, melodies, strings, massive breakdown that smashes you in the face. Bellissimo
Doses & Mimosas – Cherub
There’s so many songs out there that give me that euphoric feeling. I even made a whole playlist with 62 songs with that took over 2 years in the making. Narrowing that down to 3 was hard, choosing only one just feels nearly impossible.
With an honorable mention to “Rollercoaster” by Bleachers and “Sour Patch Kids” by Bryce Vine, I’m going with Cherub’s Doses & Mimosas. I think it all comes down to the fact that it literally stops me in my tracks every time it comes on. I’m just reminded of the perfect moment where nothing else matters but dancing and screaming along the lyrics. For me, it’s impossible to feel anything other than pure bliss for 5 minutes.
Hourglass – Squeeze
Back in college, there was a song that would get me bouncing round the room like a coked up pinball. That song was ‘Hourglass’ by Squeeze. How can you not love a song with a ballsy horn section, and an infectious silly chorus with more hooks than a tackle box?
