5 Reasons Why I Love Being a Music Curator

Have you ever gotten praise for your song selections when you blast your playlist through the speakers at a barbecue or in a car full of people?

Isn’t that one of the best feelings ever?

That feeling is what made me want to become an official playlist curator. I came across musicto and was excited to use the platform to share my playlist with the world. I have to admit, the guidelines seem a little overwhelming at first, but once you get yourself set up, it’s smooth sailing from there.

Although I have been a music curator for only a few months, it’s been a great experience and I am always excited to work on my next track addition. Here’s 5 reasons why:

1)     I get to listen to new music

Once I had everything set up, I received track submissions from different artists who would like to share their work. I would select songs based on groove, lyrics, and how they relate to the brand I represent (Music to Empower).

2)     Exposure for artists!

Sharing content has always been the best way to get exposure. When we add songs and post them on our curator social media profiles, we are giving support to the artists that we truly admire. They would gain more listeners and we may gain more followers in the process.

3)    The musicto community is extremely supportive

Andrew personally answers any questions or concerns we may have. He also pairs newbies with mentors, who would basically show us the ropes of everything. We are encouraged to like, comment, and/or share other curators’ content on social media, which is crucial to popularity.

4)     FREEDOM!

We choose what we want to add to our playlist and share our opinions of each song without anyone else intervening. We get to create our own brand and back it up with songs that are relevant to it.

5)     Experience

For those, like myself, who would like a career within the music industry, being a playlist curator keeps you active in the field. However, being a curator isn’t just about adding songs. It’s about how to get recognition for your support. You can gain marketing skills by knowing who to target and what kind of content to post. You would also work with the social media management app, Buffer and learn how to sync music using Soundsgood. Those skills will be beneficial for anyone who would like to start or advance their music career.

Overall, I love what I do. I can expand minds, support talented artists, and learn a thing or two while doing so.  And guess what - you can too!
