Snake Song – Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan

I feel like I’ve almost most come full circle with my track selection on a Million Miles.

While not every track has had country or roots’y bones – I found myself transcending through sub-genres, the odd classic and cover – for familiarity – but this week was an easy choice being a favourite…

Dream To Keep Us Going – Easy Wanderlings

Wow! Es grandioso y muy emocionante recibir un mensaje de “Easy
Wanderlings”, primero porque su mensaje me inspiró, en segunda porque
su canción me fascinó y en tercera porque se trata de una gran banda
de La India! Wow!…

Postcard – Athena Varosio

A perfect mix between synth, piano, woodwinds, strings and dulcimer. Melody is hypnotical, catching, relaxing, dreamy. Perfect to let your fantasy run away from the fear of flying.

Magic Arrow – Timber Timbre

This week’s track comes from Canadian outfit Timber Timbre.

I’m going to start you off with “Magic Arrow”, from their 2009 self titled release – purely based on my path of discovery.  This track has had some exposure on soundtracks etc and figure some of you may recognise it – anyhow it’s a good place to start you on your journey.

Opps (with Yugen Blakrok) – Vince Staples

Like Music to Dali & Jay-Z Lovers post last week, this week’s Save the World! entry was inspired by the recent release of Marvel’s Black Panther. It’s rare that to have a film score deviate from traditional cinematic motifs and pull it off so well, but I really feel my enjoyment of the film was in no small part due to Kendrick’s impeccable song curation. As curators ourselves, we know the impact that the right song can have on a particular moment, and it was humbling to see it done on a Hollywood scale…

Endless – Portico Quartet

I first encountered this track from the Red Bull Music & Culture YouTube channel where the Portico Quartet played the track at their live space. I was hooked right away.

Portico Quartet’s sounds are one of those where you’d just go “are they jazz? are they electronica? are they – nah screw it, its Portico Quartet.”…

Untitled #1 – On Your Horizon

Oldukça az bilinen Eskişehir çıkışlı bir grup On Your Horizon, belki bu yüzden biraz taraflı davranıyor olabilirim fakat müziklerine bayılıyorum.

Here – Vast

A methodically slow swell of keys that float angelically behind a cinematic, ominous string section. Roll the percussive crescendo….the curtain explodes open and BLAM!!! you’re in.

“Here” may be one of the strongest opening songs on a debut album I’ve ever experienced. Jon Crosby, the mastermind behind VAST, is essentially screaming out to the universe “I’m fuckin’ HERE!”

Erland – Joonas Widenius

Do you ever wonder why we do this?  By “We” I mean Music Curators – people who show up every week and write about a track and share it out to the world?  We do it for tracks like this – for people like Joonas Widenius.

Atom – Madison Mars

This week we’re getting back to our roots with Madison Mars’ interstellar journey ‘Atom’!

This track oozes cinematic brilliance, from the trancey string lead to the gritty vocal bass, everything about Atom screams soundtrack. Picture this: you’re about to go up against your nemesis (your boss, your annoying neighbour, your in-laws …) and you need to get the adrenaline pumping:…

Strobe – Michael Woods 2014 Remix – deadmau5, Michael Woods

Remixing deadmau5 takes some serious courage. Not only does Joel have incredibly high standards when it comes to people messing with his music, but he’s also not afraid to tell them – often in the bluntest way possible.

Full English Brexit – Billy Bragg

Billy Bragg’s first solo release in four years is a six track mini album called Bridges Not Walls which concludes with this elegy for the way things used to be, viewed through the eyes of the disenfranchised.
