Introspective Rap with experimental production
When did you write your first lyrics/music and how different is it from the lyrics/music you are writing today? How did your style develop or evolve?
One of the first songs I wrote was in January of 2019 called “Soldier in my mind” (still on SoundCloud) I remember it was the first time I challenged myself to actually articulate my true thoughts and be 100% vulnerable. I would write here and there when I was in school but never fully committed to music until I dropped out in December of 2018 that’s when I started to take music and my writing seriously. The meaning behind my name is creation and evolution so since day one my goal is to create to evolve, so all around I’ve become better at articulating myself and am a lot more comfortable on the mic and with my pen.
What about music makes you passionate?
The ability to be vulnerable and connect with people around the world, I struggled with accepting myself and my thoughts and sometimes still do, with music I’ve been able to create things I 100% love and accept for what they are even the flaws. Growing up music was a means to escape a way to let go of whatever was bothering me for a little bit, I love being able to make something that can offer those same things to others who need it, I love the fact that music brings people together and brings a since of community to those who feel they don’t belong or don’t fit in.
Why are you even attempting to get music out into the world when the chances of people hearing it are insanely small?
For that reason exactly the “chances of people hearing it are insanely small” but not impossible. Through dedication and hopefully my future success I can show others that trusting in your ability to learn and grow can help you achieve anything it just takes time and patience. The odds of us being born are insanely small yet babies are born daily. Just because it’s hard doesn’t mean it’s not possible believe in yourself and ability to adapt and you can achieve.
How did you first come together as a band or what was the influential moment when you decided you wanted to be a musician?
I dropped out of school at 16 and had mentally got down on myself and didn’t know what my purpose was, I’ve always been one to entertain people in school because I’d be bored but was always told to be quite obviously because I was also always told school was the way to success but could never find anything within school that interests me or made me feel whole. Through music I found I could express myself in whatever way I feel fit to get my emotions/ point across While being productive and of service to those who like the music and feel my energy. I realized life is what you make it and it’s up to me to make it what I want so through my creations I evolve and that has helped me feel better about myself and life all around.
What is the biggest problem you have encountered as a new artist in the music industry?
I wouldn’t call it a problem but my lack of knowledge on marketing and mixing those two things have kept me stagnant for some time. In music I know you need to be consistent with promotion and sound quality but being that I am currently working alone on all of those things I have to learn it from the start.
Is collaboration a part of your whole creative process or do you write songs individually first and then collaborate on refining the song?
Sometimes. Besides getting the beat from YouTube I’d say I do everything 100% alone from the writing to beat cuts and sound design. I reach out to a couple people for insight on how I can better my mixing and mastering skills so on that side of things I do collaborate, but I tend to only get the mix I created mastered by someone so 90% I’d credit to myself.
Which kind of music/ artists do you enjoy listening to and how has that shaped your own music/sound? If a band, maybe something along the line: do you (band members) share the same music tastes or differ in tastes and how has that shaped your band’s sound?
I mostly draw inspiration from my favorites like Dmx Nas pac biggie Denzel curry xxxtentacion ski mask the slump god juice wrld “the whole underground from 2015 and 16” Amy winehouse because she was the first artist I heard make songs about her current struggles so openly and honestly and just music In general honestly if it pleases my ears I like it I don’t like to close myself to any genre of music
Name one song, or album, other than your own, that you would recommend to listeners, or maybe if you could share the stage with one artist, of the past or present, who would that be and why.
“?” By xxxtentacion that album showed me that as a “rapper” you can expand beyond hip hop and do anything you want. Growing up in Iowa as a black kid I was exposed to all kinds of music and enjoyed them but when I thought about making music my first thought was “rap.”
Because it was what I was comfortable with and what I thought people would wanna see from me. that Album showed me good music is good music there are no restrictions I can make whatever sounds good to my ears and it’s a matter of getting supports who accept me as an artist instead of a “rapper”
