I couldn't have a playlist full of soulful songs to warm the soul without the incomparable Teddy Pendergrass. While Teddy Pendergrass has multiple songs that I could choose from, countless hits with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and numerous solo hits, "When Somebody Loves You Back" has been my favorite Teddy P song for many years. What makes this song so special is the classic melodies and orchestration of strings by Gamble and Huff. True staples of soul music, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff stay on this playlist because of heir ability to create music that is timeless and soulful. The combination of Gamble and Huff and Teddy Pendergrass was a true marvel of the 70's
Released on Teddy Pendergrass's 1978 album "Life is a Song Worth Singing", this track became a quiet storm radio favorite. Still to this day, when I hear it I immediately become filled with warmth and believe that's why it's still a radio favorite. Perfectly fitting for the end of summer, I highly recommend giving this track a listen. Especially for all 70's soulful music lovers.
