I can remember hearing Earth, Wind, and Fire (EWF) aka the “Elements” every Saturday morning as a kid growing up. One of my father’s favorite groups. And understandably so. EWF took jazz, soul, gospel, pop and more and wrapped it up in one psychedelic, mystical package. Compiling various streams of black music, synthesizing soul, funk, R&B, pop, gospel and African styles into their very own signature sound. Founded by the late great Maurice White, EWF would be described as one of the most innovative and commercially successful bands of all time and would become a staple in households all over the world.
“That’s the Way of the World” was written by Maurice and Verdine White (brothers), and Charles Stepney in 1975. I specifically remember, this song being played throughout my household and to this day it is one of my favorite songs. What I love about this song, is its universal message of “Love”, the universal language. If you truly listen to this particular EWF track, you can see how it relates to every soul and how the lyrics of this song written in 1975 can hold true to this very day:
Hearts of Fire
Creates love desire
High and higher
To your place on the throne
You will find
Peace of Mind
If you look way down in your heart and soul
Don’t hesitate
Cause the world seems cold
Stay young at heart
Cause you’ll never grow old
Plant your flower
And you grow a pearl
Child is born
With a heart of gold
Way of the world
Makes his heart so cold
Today, we are living in some trying times, and I believe this song offers hope. No matter who you are and what you are going through, we are all born with a spirit of everlasting love and hope. And yes, this world is designed to test us; but we must remember that everything that we will ever need is already within us. Always stay young at heart and remember that truth within you.
This song encompasses what this playlist is truly about, the soul. It captures the heart of this playlist and the universal language of love. Every song is to uplift and warm your soul in some way, which connects us as one. I trust that when you take a listen you will know exactly what I mean by “Music to Warm the Soul”.
