I tend to associate Joy Division with the night, with black and White aesthetic, with a certain kind of elegance which only the powerful simplicity of black and White combined expresses, it’s certainly a unique sound that many of us fall in love with at a certain point of our lives, mine came when I saw the movie Control, by Anton Corbjin, it just resonated and captured so easily the essence of the band that you were instantly mesmerized.
And with that love came many memorable nights of just listening to Joy Division, I can even remember a Christmas night (maybe on 2008) and just going across town on a taxi with my parents and my sister just listening to Joy Division. Seeing the city and the motion of the city lights through the Windows and the music on the background was just special.
So here comes transmission, for which I recommend you listen the studio version, its calmer mood helps fit the essence of the nocturnal experience a lot more than the live version. The atmosphere the song provides is just something else, something special, that can accompany you in certain special nights and make them even more memorable.
