It had been an hour of an incredibly exhausting piano recital, I was graduating. It had taken me five years of really hard work but it was finally ending.
I knew I was going to be so emotional I would not be able to speak at the end, had just finished playing Pierre Boulez’s “12 notations”, one of the most difficult pieces I had ever played.
My encore was clear, this piece. It’s so beautifully simple, the kind of music that defies people as obsessed with complexity as classical musicians to just stay silent and feel.
I just knew it was perfect, I gave my soul to it and people felt it, I couldn’t have asked for more, this piece will stay with me all my life, that moment will stay with me all my life.
