After a long 20+ year music career, Matt Boroff only made it to my radar last year when I asked friends for some new music recommendations via Facebook. While I received a unhealthy dose of somber expressions (guess my friends know what I like), Matt's tunes pierced through the dark walls of my black heart. (Thanks Patrick)
Sharing the stage with acclaimed acts like Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana and Calexico (just to name a few) as well as collaborating with giants of the industry; vocalist Mark Lanegan (Screaming Tree's, QOTSA), percussionist Jack Irons (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam), and the multi-talented producer/musician producer/multi-instrumentalist Alain Johannes (QOTSA, PJ Harvey, Them Crooked Vultures, Desert Sessions) Matt has seemingly slipped through the cracks of the mainstream, or at least to my limited knowledge and based on Spotify stream counts.
If you enjoy dreamy dessertesque soundscapes, intimate self-examining lyrics, and brooding vocals, then Grand Delusion is a great place to start. Other album notables include; the haunting, cryptically muffled "Modern Plagues", and Spaghetti West-Rock, seeker masterpiece, "Thirst".
